A Plus Size Sprinkle of Glitter

A few weeks ago I saw my social media explode with the release of the Sprinkle of Glitter Simply Be range. I don't know where I have been living lately but I have to say that Sprinkle of Glitter is a blogger that I hadn't heard of before. Of course, I have since read up on her blog and it's great!

As ever, I was a little apprehensive to look at the range because I wasn't sure what sizes would be available. As a size 30/32 I (sad to say) am used to being left out of ranges or having limited options. I was really excited to see all of the items available in all sizes - YAY!

Last week I went to London to catch up with friends and a group of them had bought me the this lovely printed flower dress for my birthday. I was so excited! I don't usually notice material on dresses because I am too excited by patterns and colour, but I did notice that this was a lovely thick material and it felt like high quality.... .

However perhaps one of the most exciting things about this dress is that THE BELT FIT!! If you're a plus size clothes wearer you'll know that belts with dresses often don't quite work out.

So anyway,on to the dress. I love the pattern of this dress, the floral is beautiful. Size wise I am wearing a 32. I could easily have sized down once on the bust, maybe twice. It's a lovely generous size and the material has a little bit of stretch.

Have you looked at the Sprinkle of Glitter range? What is your favourite item?

Here's What I Would Have Spent: Simpy Be

You might have seen a post or two I have done before - Here's What I Would Have Spent. Todays company is Simply Be.

A few days ago some bloggers and I got talking about Simply Be and the plus size options that they offer. For many people Simply Be are one of the reliable retailers in the market, because of the amount of time they have been around.

Over recent months I have noticed a trend in the sizes that Simple Be offer, especially in their special collections. When you visit the site you'll see that they offer have a massive difference in the number of items they have in a size compared to what they offer in a size 32 for example.

In fact when you look at dresses they have more items in a size 12 than they do in a size 28. A massive shame for a plus size retailer, who has always prided itself on offering a number of choices.

So this week I thought I would take a look at Simply Be and what I might spend, should they have given me the option.

These are items that were never stocked above a size 26 and items I'd definitely have liked to invest in, should I have been given the chance.

They're from collections such as Kelly Brook, Koko, Little Mistress etc who all do very limited items above 26, if any at all.

Have you found items you'd like to buy that were not available in your size?

On another note, a lovely company this week offered to send my mum some flowers. They came today and I thought I'd share them with you!

They're a lovely gift, thank you Floric! Aren't they beautiful? I love flowers!

When Life Gives You Lemons

Just a very short post today, because I sadly can't see this dress on the Simply Be website anymore.

I saw this dress on someone weeks ago and had to have it! Then I saw on sale online for £15 so snapped it up - and I am so glad that I did. I know lots of people shy away from colour for winter, but I will definitely be giving this an outing or two over the colder months!

What do you like to wear over the colder months?

Clothes That Strictly Have The X Factor!

WOW. Do I Get An award for the worst headline ever?? Probably!

Anyway, after a busy few weekends and another weekend away next weekend I thought I should have a quiet one this weekend - and actually I am quite enjoying! I had a beaut of a curry with my family earlier and now I am watching Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor is to follow!

Often when I am watching TV I find myself online window shopping and lusting over items that I can't afford or might buy in the future! To be honest this gets bigger and bigger each week, there's just so many pretty items out there!

So... I thought I would share with you some of the items I am lusting over at the moment!

Black And Pink Floral Print Midi Dress With Mesh Insert From Yours Clothing

I know it's not a very wintery pattern or colour but I really love this dress! It's in the sale for £22 at the minute too which is a bit of a bargain!

Exclusive Swing Dress In Pineapple Print by ASOS Curve

I haven't had massses of luck with swing dresses but I am determined to try them  more. I really love this unusual print and colouring.

Baby Doll Checked Dress by Simply Be

I have lusted over this baby doll check dress ever since I spotted it at Style XL! It's currently in the Simply Be sale so I would probably snap it up before it goes!

Do You Want Curves With That By Nicky Rockets

Nicky Rockets has a whole number of really funky, curvy character based t-shirts and this is my fave! I've held off so far because I am not sure how it will fit, but I do need to buy one of these at some point!

Dancing Lady Necklace

Something a little different, but this Dancing Lady Necklace from the team over at Black Heart Creatives could not be more perfect!

So there you have it, 5 items that are well and truly on my wishlist at the moment! What are you lusting after?

Plus Size Fashion - 1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Back?

I have to admit that I had to think twice about writing this post because I really do not want to isolate brands that I have worked with and might work with in the future. But then I realised I couldn't think like that because my blog started out as my own little corner of the internet to rant and rave about items and I can't let that change.

To be honest, I have been wanting to write about this topic for a few weeks now but never found the time - and then the Kelly Brook for Simply Be collection was released this morning! In case you haven't seen, Simply Be have been promoting this collection for the past few weeks as an inclusive fashion line with sizes 10 through to 32. I was SO excited for this range, even if it isn't all items I would wear - the idea of an inclusive range was exciting to me! Something for everyone rather than a 'plus size range' is a massive step forward and something I personally would love to see more of.

Today, I logged onto the Simply Be website to see what the collection was saying and I was excited to see that the collection had 12 pieces in total - GREAT! Then I clicked on size 30 to see what I could buy and I was met with 4 choices! 4 black choices... Some pretty choices yes, but black! and only 4 choices! No bodycon, no daring red trousers, no bright colours for me because apparently this INCLUSIVE collection only has all 12 items available in 14-26.

If you're a size 10 you'll have just 10 items to pick from and if you're a size 28-32 then you'll have just 4! To me, a collection that spans sizes 14-26 is nothing new, Asda have been doing it for years!

However, let's face it Simply Be are not the only retailer to offer such a dramatic drop in style choices when you go up the size scale. If you log onto the New Look Inspire page you'll see that they have 336 choices in a size 26, 243 in a size 28 and JUST 52 items in a size 30. A massive 284 choices in clothing that New Look have decided I am too fat for.

Last year Pink Clove became one of my favourite go to places - I lived in their tartan dress last year! Go to their website today and you'll see 48 dress on sale, just 30 of them in a size 30-32. This from a brand who says that they stock sizes 16-32 on all of their main promotional material.

Perhaps I am being mean and have a taste of sour grapes because so many of the items I want are not available in my size. Perhaps every size has the same issues as me and I am just focusing on my own dramas. I understand that not every single retailer can stock every single size (although how amazing would that be!) but when you promote sizes up to 32 and you have just 15% of your items in that size I think something is going wrong here!

If you're going to advertise that you stock those sizes, you must assume that people are actually looking for them, so why aren't you stocking them? If you're going to launch an all inclusive range then make sure it is that, all inclusive! If you have just 1/3rd of items available in all sizes this isn't inclusive because a majority of the items on sale exclude people who might want to buy them! This trend of less choices in bigger sizes is the same across the board from lots of brands and something I would love to see change!

I LOVE the inroads we're making with plus size fashion and celebrity collaborations, more choices and bolder styles can only be a good thing! However sometimes I feel like we need to do more to make sure that plus size fashion includes all sizes and not just those that fit a certain bracket!

All of this because I am SO sad I can't wear the Kelly Brook body con dress, it's a beaut isn't it?

What do you think of the collection & plus size fashion choices in general?

Plus Size Shopping As Simple As It Should Be

I have mentioned the plus size shopping haven of Westfields in Derby and I will no doubt mention it again. A couple of months ago one of my favourite people in the world (Lucia from U Can't Wear That) moved to Derby, so of course I have visited her a few times. Whenever I go, we pop to Westfields and I am never disappointed. The shopping centre itself has a Simply Be, Yours Clothing, Evans, New Look Inspire and Primark - what more could a girl want?

When we popped into the Simply Be store this time they had rails and rails of sales clothing, all with an extra 20% off, you're a better person than me if you could resist that! The Simply Be changing rooms are lovely, so trying on clothes there is a pleasure!

These are some of my favourite items I tried on. I brought the swing dress & the red dress which no doubt will turn up in a blog post soon. I wish I had bought the flower print dress, but I had to try and be at least a little bit sensible!

If you live in the Midlands or anywhere near a Simply Be store then make sure you pop along. Being able to clothes shop where you can try them on rather than have to guess your size online is a novelty I'll never get bored of!

Have you been to a Simply Be store before? How was it?

Going Koko For A New Dress

Teeny tiny post today just to show you my new dress. I actually picked it up on sale from Simply Be for £11 a few weeks ago! It's from the Koko brand which I had never tried before, so picking the dress up for a bargain price was perfect. I also wanted to show you that sales are worth paying attention to. I often assume that sale stuff is what's left so there will be nothing good, but this dress proved me wrong!

Koko Zig Zig Print Dress (now back up to £17!)

Simply Be often have good sales so they are well worth paying attention to!

Share your sale bargains with me!!!

That's What It's All About!

When I started blogging, it was really just a place to rant about fat politics and post about pretty dresses. I had no idea really when I started that there was such a blogging community and that so many people were involved. Then, all of a sudden I found out about blogging events & meet-ups and suddenly I met a whole new group of people. And what is even better about these people is that they all thought like me - what a revelation!

When I moved back up North I was worried about losing this and not knowing bloggers anymore... but I was wrong! Last Saturday I attended a shopping event in Manchester arranged by Steph at Seeing Spots and I am so glad I did. A group of us met up to go shopping in Manchester and it was great!

To be able to get together with a group of friends, visit shops and actually try clothes on was something new to me. I know if you are someone smaller that will sound silly, but there lack of plus size clothing stores on the high street really make days like this impossible... almost! The Arndale at Manchester is sort of like fat girl heaven but with more stairs! In the shopping centre you have Simply Be, Yours Clothing, Evans and New Look Inspire  - amazing!

Meeting a whole bunch of new bloggers was amazing and I am so glad I found the strength to go! I know that it can sometimes be a little overwhelming to attend something like this, especially for the first time can be hard but do it - honestly!

After we finished around the shops we headed for some amazing food at Home Sweet Home and then for a few hours entertainment at Tiger Tiger. The lovely people at Tiger Tiger were kind enough to host a cocktail masterclass for us, and it was amazing! 9 of us got to make cocktails, taste cocktails, down shots and play party games all under the supervision of James our friendly barman - amazing!

Sadly I was having so much fun at the shopping trip, dinner and Tiger Tiger that I didn't take any pictures - I know, what an idiot!

The point of this post is that if you have seen Style XL, Plus North or any other blogger events and you are unsure about attending, bite the bullet and come along! You'll always be made welcome and I promise you'll have the best time!! And when it comes to blogging and trying new things, that's what it's all about!

So, which meet up will I see you at?

xx

A Look At How Simple Fashion Should Be

When it comes to plus-size fashion one of the biggest bugbears of the ladies you'll talk to is the fact that they can't shop the same places as their smaller friends. Although the range of plus-size fashion choices has increased dramatically over reason years there is still quite a long way to go.

So, I decided to look into what options were out there and roped in my little sister to help me. Lisa is a size 10, so as you can imagine the differences in our bodies are quite drastic. I thought it would be interesting to see what choices we would have if we wanted to shop in the same places... First up Simply Be.

As Simply Be cater for sizes 12-32, as you can imagine they had plenty of choice! The lovely ladies at Simply Be offered to send us both a dress, to show just how versatile the brand is! We both chose the same dress as we wanted to showcase how different bodies can wear the same dress, look different but still look fab!

AX Paris Coral Lace Waist Skater Dress

We both really liked the dress, it's a lovely colour. I would say that the material is very unforgiving and has no stretch at all, so if you do it make sure you size up once or twice. As you can see you can easily style it with either leggings or tights and it would work just as well.

I intend to feature a few brands where you can buy a range of clothing in different sizes, just to showcase how good plus size fashion can be - if you know where to look!

Thanks for reading & thanks to my little sister for letting me feature her, she's a beaut isn't she!?

Sweet Like Chocolate - Simply Be Dress Review

Last week the lovely team at Simply Be offered to send me a dress... how exciting! I spent AGGGESS going through the website trying to decide what to get. I am at stage now where I love dresses but I want something a bit different. You'll know from previous posts that most of my dresses are bright, colourful, full of pattern and eye catching, so I thought I would go for something a bit different. That said, I couldn't bring myself to get a black dress so I choose this chocolately little number instead.

As you can see, I went for the big hair again. I don't know why but I am really loving that at the moment! I really need to find a way to get it bigger, probably learning how to plait nearer to my head as I am not very good at that at the moment.

I struggled to know what accessories to wear with this because lots of my shoes and all of my belts are black... in the end I decided it didnt matter. I went for beige shoes (Primark), a black belt and my trusted Lovely necklace from Primark.

I haven't worn anything from the Jeffrey and Paula range at Simply Be before, which is where I got this from so I ordered my normal size. It's a lovely thick jersey material which is really generous size, I could easily have sized down at least one size, maybe two! I am so glad I went for this dress for a bit of a change, it's a welcome addition to my wardrobe! It's currently £40 on the Simply Be website - http://www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/jeffrey-paula-jersey-print-dress/uc829/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=9985

I wore it to a night out where I drank too much vodka and danced all night - it was comfy to wear all night & lots of people commented on the gorgeous colours in the dress.

On a slight side note, a few weeks ago Alibi health drinks sent me a crate of their drinks to try. I am not usually into health drinks like this but they're sparkling water in either Pomegranate or citrus flavour - they taste surprisingly nice. In one can you get most of your daily allowance of vitamins and minerals which is always a bonus.

It might not be the aim they are going for, but after a night out one of these cans in the morning really sorts me out & fixes the fuzzy head I have caused by one too many lemonades the night before ;)

Afternoon Tea With Anna Scholz

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited down to Anna Scholz HQ to view the new Anna Scholz/Simply Be collection. I have always kept an eye on the Anna Scholz collection because I love how bold and bright the colour and patterns are. Sadly sometimes colour and pattern is something that is lacking in plus size fashion, so it's nice when a brand gives this a go.

When I got there I saw that they had some of Annas own collection stuff out too, not just the stuff for Simply Be. As someone who finds Anna Scholz stuff priced firmly out of their price range it was exciting to be able to see and feel the outfits - I never realised it, but the difference in quality is amazing! She had items in EVERY size to try on, although I wasn't quite brave enough, I really wish I had!

Just look at all those colours and prints - beautiful!

Some of the beautiful lingerie for Simply Be

So much colour - I was in heaven!

We were well looked after!

Me & Hollie from Pretty Big Butterflies and the lady herself Anna Scholz

I believe the Anna Scholz collection and the items for Simply Be are up now, if they're not then keep an eye out because they're worth having a nosey at. Thank you to the team at Anna Scholz for making us feel so welcome and to Simply Be for inviting me.

Different Strokes For Different Folks

One thing I love about reading blogs is seeing how different people choose to style different outfits. I thought I would put together a few different examples as I find it fascinating to see. It's interesting to me to see how different dresses can look so different on ladies of vary heights, sizes, body shapes and different styles.

The Infamous Pink Clove Skater Dress

L-R - Me, Sarah from http://plussizeproud.wordpress.com/, Nikki from http://www.nattynikki.com/, Caroline from http://www.curvywordy.com/

The Simply Be Mermaid Dress

L-R Me, Rachel from http://www.adressisforlife.com/, Betty from http://pamperandcurves.blogspot.co.uk/

Red Lace New Look Dress

L-R Me, Mookie from muki7x7.blogspot.co.uk, Leah from http://www.justmeleah.co.uk/

I love that all of these dress look different on different ladies, even if they're styled the same! It just goes to show that you never know how a dress is going to look until you try it on - so get out there, be brave and try something new!

I'd love to expand on this feature in the future - Have you got a photo of you in a dress I have? I'd love to see and if possible share it with my readers!

Thanks

ABC of Winter Warmers from Simply Be

BRRRRRR!!! How is it THIS cold already!?

I'll admit it - I am not a winter person! I don't like wearing lots of layers, I own one coat and I don't enjoy going out in the cold, dark, miserable evenings! Give me leggings, a dress and flip flops any day!

That said - we're in the middle of winter and there is no avoiding it! There are some really love winter jumpers on offer this season, so I thought I would take a look at some of the ones on offer from Simply Be this year!

Affordable -
Chunky Knit Heart Jumper

Available in mint and white (as pictured) or mint and grey I think that this bargain is great for just £21.00. When it comes to jumpers I personally don't like them massive and chunky, because I don't like being too hot and sweaty. What I think is nice about this jumper is that it is nice and warm thanks to the chunky knit but it doesn't look like it would be too big and bulky to wear. You can get this jumper here.

Bargain - Stripe Open Knit Tunic Jumper

I know, I know - back away from the stripes!! This jumper breaks the fashion rules when it comes to what plus size should wear, but maybe that is why I love it so much! I love a tunic jumper because they're nice and long, so you can easily team them up with leggings (and boots!). I think that this jumper has a nice shape to it, the only problem is that I think I would have to buy both colours - nightmare! You can get this jumper here.

Cash To Splash -
Grazia Soft Fluffy Knitted Metallic Yarn Jumper

As I am sure you all know by now, I can not resist a bit of sparkle. I love this jumper because it looks nice and cosy, but it still has some glitz and glamour about it! If you were wearing this to work and suddenly decided to go out for drinks afterwards, you would not feel at all under dresses in a jumper like this! For just £40.00 I think it would be a great addition to a wardrobe. You can get this jumper here

What do you like to wear to keep warm in winter?

ABC Of Winter Dresses From Simply Be

Following on from yesterdays look at Yours Clothing dresses for Christmas, I thought I would have a little nosey at what Simply Be are offering this year! Alongside the now infamous 'mermaid dress' they have some really solid offerings for winter - I have serious dress lust looking at their page! If anyone has any tips on how to win the lottery, it would be much appreciated!

Affordable - Flock Baroque Print Skater Dress

I have had my eye on this dress for a while now, but have yet to buy it! I love the pattern on the dress and think it would actually be lovely to wear over Christmas. What I like about this dress is that it looks like it would be lovely and warm - I know many girls want long sleeves on their dresses, and this is perfect! You can easily wear this with leggings or tights and boots - either way it would look lovely! This dress is only £24.00 - click here to get it!

Bargain - AX Paris Sequin Bodycon Dress

If you follow any of the plus size bloggers then you will probably have seen this dress - which has been fondly named the 'mermaid dress'. To me this is the PERFECT party season dress - bodycon and sequins, what more does a girl need? I love the pattern and colour of the dress - to be honest there isn't anything I don't like about the dress. Even though this dress is £65 I still think it's a bargain. Click here to get it.

Cash To Splash - Joanna Hope Lace Dress

Although I would never have the budget to be able to afford a dress like this, I have serious lust going on for it! I love the lace affect and the colour of the dress. What I love most about the dress is that you can easily wear it without having to dress it up too much - the simplistic look will really work with this dress. This dress is a real investment piece at £120.00 - click here to get it.

So, there you have it  - a teeny, tiny insight into what Simply Be are offering shoppers this Christmas.

Have you got your eye on any Christmas dresses yet?
