I Didn't Read The Memo: Fat Girls & Stripes

Apparently a few years ago, a memo was sent out to say that fat girls shouldn't wear stripes. SHOCK HORROR they apparently aren't flattering at all and you should always dress to look smaller - who knew?!

I 'unfortunately' missed this memo and have been gleefully wearing whatever I wanted, without worrying about what it did to my body shape. This week while at my parents I needed to buy some emergency leggings - and as Yours Clothing do next day delivery I opted to use them! Now, when you're buying just leggings and paying £7 for delivery, it seems rude to not at least browse the sale section before you check out to see what is there.

Bag from ASOS. Shoes from Just Fab

I came across this really nice knitted tunic at just under £12 and had to get it. I actually sized up in this because I wanted the oversize look and it was nice to be shopping with a brand where I could actually do this - however I probably didn't need to as it is a bit 'too' big, I still really like it though!

I love the length (bear in mind I am short) and the fact it looks nice but is still so easy to just throw on and wear out. I wore this to dinner with my parents and it was nice to be sat comfy and cosy, without worrying about looking drab.

I really want a wardrobe with more of these easy to wear pieces - any recommendations?

The Infamous Tess Dress - Yours Clothing

Ahhh... The Tess Dress!

I spotted this dress a few months ago when I headed to Birmingham to meet Tess Munster. In fact, you might remember that a group of us bloggers all wore this dress and posed for a photo with Tess! I loved the dress then but it only went up to a size 26. This meant it fitted but not quite as comfortably as I would have liked so I didn't buy it :(

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I spotted it on their website right up to a size 32. I don't know when that snuck in but I was very happy! So, of course I bought it straight away.

The material of the dress is really nice and thick which means that it doesn't cling if that is something you are worried about. The thick material doesn't mean that it is too hot for summer though as the length is great and the sleeveless arms mean it is nice and cool. Yours now have this dress in a range of colours but for me it was always going to be about bright pink! It's currently £35 on their website (new customers can get £10 off by using the code Blogger18)

I love the dress and will more than likely snap up another in a different colour at some point!

Would you wear the Tess Dress?

Let Me Take an 'Elfie

HOLIDAYS ARE COMING! HOLIDAYS ARE COMING!

A few weeks ago the lovely ladies at Yours Clothing sent me this rather lovely Celfie t-shirt. You have probably seen a few other bloggers sporting the t shirt... Not that we're all selfie obsessed or anything!!

The Coca Cola truck visited Morecambe to help kick of Christmas celebrations today so I couldn't resist a little trip out to wear it. If you have ever been to Morecambe before you'll know that it's quite a casual town so I didn't really want to go too dressed up. In fact, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to give this Celfie t shirt it's first outing.

As it's quite cold I thought I'd wear this lovely new tangle cardigan from Taking Shape too. The Taking Shape brand only goes up to a size 24/26 but I found that this cardigan (in size XXL) to be a great fit. I probably wouldn't be able to do it  up but I don't think that for an item like this it really matters.

I actually found both items to be well made and a great fit. For being out and about for an afternoon, having my photo taken in front of crowds of people it seemed like the perfect outfit to be wearing!

The Coca Cola truck was loads of fun, with plenty of fair rides and other amusements to keep 1
children entertained. I even met up with a couple of friends while I was there!

Remember If you're new to Yours Clothing you can use my Blogger18 code to get £10 off of a £20 spend on their website.

Clothes That Strictly Have The X Factor!

WOW. Do I Get An award for the worst headline ever?? Probably!

Anyway, after a busy few weekends and another weekend away next weekend I thought I should have a quiet one this weekend - and actually I am quite enjoying! I had a beaut of a curry with my family earlier and now I am watching Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor is to follow!

Often when I am watching TV I find myself online window shopping and lusting over items that I can't afford or might buy in the future! To be honest this gets bigger and bigger each week, there's just so many pretty items out there!

So... I thought I would share with you some of the items I am lusting over at the moment!

Black And Pink Floral Print Midi Dress With Mesh Insert From Yours Clothing

I know it's not a very wintery pattern or colour but I really love this dress! It's in the sale for £22 at the minute too which is a bit of a bargain!

Exclusive Swing Dress In Pineapple Print by ASOS Curve

I haven't had massses of luck with swing dresses but I am determined to try them  more. I really love this unusual print and colouring.

Baby Doll Checked Dress by Simply Be

I have lusted over this baby doll check dress ever since I spotted it at Style XL! It's currently in the Simply Be sale so I would probably snap it up before it goes!

Do You Want Curves With That By Nicky Rockets

Nicky Rockets has a whole number of really funky, curvy character based t-shirts and this is my fave! I've held off so far because I am not sure how it will fit, but I do need to buy one of these at some point!

Dancing Lady Necklace

Something a little different, but this Dancing Lady Necklace from the team over at Black Heart Creatives could not be more perfect!

So there you have it, 5 items that are well and truly on my wishlist at the moment! What are you lusting after?

Kimo-Yes: A Look At My New Kimono

You can barely move this season without seeing kimonos for sale. It's a trend that has taken over plus size fashion, unsurprising when you consider how perfect they are for summer. I am not someone that likes to cover up my arms really so they weren't something that I felt I had to rush out and buy! However last week Yours Clothing offered to let me have one - how could I resist?

To be honest with you, I feel sad that I have left it so long to try one! This kimono is so light weight that it's perfect for cooler days. We all know that this weather is so changeable and I am forever being caught out in the rain. One of these in my bag could save a lot of wet dresses! It would also be great for cooler evenings when I am in the pub garden refusing to home until it's completely dark (happens quite often).

I choose this Pink and Black Floral Rose Print kimono that goes up to a size 32, but I am also quite excited that they do kimonos up to a size 36! You can see that reviewed on Lucia's blog here. Yours Clothing are really leading the way for size 32+ fashion and it's really nice to see!

I really love this kimono and I am glad I got it! I can really see me getting quite a lot of wear out of it, especially because I now live by the sea and it's often a bit breezier! It's only £20 on their website (or in store, which is where these pics were taken) so hardly breaks the bank either!

Remember If you're new to Yours Clothing you can use my Blogger18 code to get £10 off of a £20 spend.

How do you feel about the kimono trend?

Maxi-mum Summer Loving!

Just a short post today about this lovely dress I picked up from Yours Clothing at the weekend. I was in Derby this weekend and so paid a visit to the Yours Store at Westfields there (it's lovely - more about that later). They had this BEAUTIFUL maxi dress in store and now it's mine!

The Purple and Green Tropical Print maxi dress is £35 on the website or in store and is available right up to a size 36 - amazing! It is a little long for me, but I quite like that long gyspy/boho look anyway. It also means that it would be suitable for someone taller than me too (which is likely to be most of you!).

I am quite new to the whole maxi dress trend, but I am really loving it! I now want all the maxi dresses! Yours Clothing have some really lovely ones and even though I have said it once and I will no doubt say it again, it is SO pleasing to see them do pretty dresses up to a size 36! As far as I know there isn't a fashion retailer in the UK doing such an affordable range like this and I only hope it continues to grow.

Remember If you're new to Yours Clothing you can use my Blogger18 code to get £10 off of a £20 spend.

What dresses are you loving this summer?

What Makes A Real Plus Size Woman?

I have spoken about my hatred of the term 'real women' before and I have no doubt that it is a subject that will come up again! However, what I hadn't really come across until this morning was women campaigning for 'real plus size women'....  Is there even such a thing?

I woke up to the (in my opinion) exciting news that Yours Clothing are working with Hayley Hasselhoff and that she is to be the face of their summer campaign! I am a sucker for a pretty girl in a pretty dress so this was quite exciting to me! I saw Hayley at British Plus Size Fashion Weekend and she is stunning!

I wandered over to the Yours Clothing Facebook page for a bit of a nosey and I was really surprised at how much negativity there was surrounding Yours Clothings announcement. Many women were claiming that Hayley was 'too small' to represent them and that Yours Clothing should have chosen a 'real plus size woman' as the face of their summer collection.

It is easy to get carried away with the need to see clothes on bodies that we feel represent us, but we have to remember that bodies and clothing are not a one size fits all state of affairs! Yes, I would love to see size 28 models showing off clothes, but that means that everyone who isn't that size misses out! Even someone who is a size 28 could have a different body shape to me - the truth is that you're never going to get a true representation. The truth is that Hayley, as a size 16 young lady is part of Yours Clothing's target market - they offer fast fashion for sizes 14+ and so she is the size of their customers, even if you feel that her body doesn't reflect yours.

What is also important to remember is that size 16 girls want to see how clothes look on their body too, or at least as close as you can get it to! It's fab that places like Yours Clothing use bigger models and plus size bloggers to showcase their clothing and show it off on different bodies, but we have to remember the smaller end of plus size too!

I have seen posts on Yours Clothings Facebook shooting down women for being too big, too bold, promoting obesity and now not plus size enough! Let's face facts here, plus size means different things to different people. Someone at a size 16 is going to look a lot smaller than me, but a lot bigger than my sister.

However, if someone shops at a plus size store (even if not all the time) and wants to label themselves as plus size - they're all just as real as anyone else and their need for representation in the plus size industry is just as relevant! I would love to see the day when we stop shooting each other down in flames - none of us are too small, too big, too short, too fat, too thin, too tall or too anything - we are exactly enough and that's all we need!

For some people I am too plus size and for others Hayley is not plus size enough - where do you draw the line!?

I personally love the shots put out of the summer collection so far and would love to see more!

What do you think?

That's What It's All About!

When I started blogging, it was really just a place to rant about fat politics and post about pretty dresses. I had no idea really when I started that there was such a blogging community and that so many people were involved. Then, all of a sudden I found out about blogging events & meet-ups and suddenly I met a whole new group of people. And what is even better about these people is that they all thought like me - what a revelation!

When I moved back up North I was worried about losing this and not knowing bloggers anymore... but I was wrong! Last Saturday I attended a shopping event in Manchester arranged by Steph at Seeing Spots and I am so glad I did. A group of us met up to go shopping in Manchester and it was great!

To be able to get together with a group of friends, visit shops and actually try clothes on was something new to me. I know if you are someone smaller that will sound silly, but there lack of plus size clothing stores on the high street really make days like this impossible... almost! The Arndale at Manchester is sort of like fat girl heaven but with more stairs! In the shopping centre you have Simply Be, Yours Clothing, Evans and New Look Inspire  - amazing!

Meeting a whole bunch of new bloggers was amazing and I am so glad I found the strength to go! I know that it can sometimes be a little overwhelming to attend something like this, especially for the first time can be hard but do it - honestly!

After we finished around the shops we headed for some amazing food at Home Sweet Home and then for a few hours entertainment at Tiger Tiger. The lovely people at Tiger Tiger were kind enough to host a cocktail masterclass for us, and it was amazing! 9 of us got to make cocktails, taste cocktails, down shots and play party games all under the supervision of James our friendly barman - amazing!

Sadly I was having so much fun at the shopping trip, dinner and Tiger Tiger that I didn't take any pictures - I know, what an idiot!

The point of this post is that if you have seen Style XL, Plus North or any other blogger events and you are unsure about attending, bite the bullet and come along! You'll always be made welcome and I promise you'll have the best time!! And when it comes to blogging and trying new things, that's what it's all about!

So, which meet up will I see you at?

xx

OMCZ: Summer Loving

Last weekend I went shopping in Manchester with some bloggers (more about that later) and I bought this amazing dress from Yours Clothing! When I woke up the next day it was brilliant sunshine so it seemed the perfect excuse to put it on and go out and make the most of the weather, perfect for this weeks Outside My Comfort Zone post!

Theme - Summer Fun Day

It's getting warmer in the UK and it's nearly time for the Summer Fun Days to start. Whether it be your local village fun day, a school fayre or a party at a friend's house, I want to see your outfits for those days out soaking up the sun.

I went out and about with my mum and dad, had an ice-cream by the lake and even snuck into Primark for some more shopping - a good day all in all!

*Sunlight in my eyes is not ideal.. but look at the pretty dress!

I saw this dress on the website a week or so ago and I loved the pattern straight away. I am usually into big and bold colours but this dress was just too pretty to resist. When I saw it in store and they had it in my size, I knew it had to be mine!

Yours Clothing just seem to be doing so well when it comes to dresses lately, with so many cuts and patterns on there! I love browsing their new arrivals page and seeing what they have added.

I like the length of the dress as it isn't too long and I feel great wearing it without leggings. It's a nice thin material which is great for summer (if we ever get one that lasts more than a day!) and the gypsy style top makes it really flattering.

I know that this dress is going to play a big part in my summer wardrobe.

What do you like to wear when the weather is hot?

This Daisy Is Yours

I am a big fan of dresses by Yours Clothing and really wish my wardrobe could be packed full of them all! When I saw this dress on the website I knew I wanted it. Although its listed as a tunic it's a great length and perfect for if you want to get your pins out this summer. The jersey material is really nice and 'casual' feeling which is great for summer.

However, one of the nicest things about this dress is that it is available up to a size 36 which is something that really excites me. I love that Yours Clothing now offer clothing above a size 32 and when it is fashion items like this then it is even better. It's also a really generous size so you could easily size down if you wanted to. It has a tie at the waist so you can tie it nice and tight and bring it in if you want to give it a more fitted shape.

As you can see it has a keyhole effect cut out at the front which I think is really fun and cheeky for summer. It's also in the sale for just under £20.00 at the moment (If you're new to Yours Clothing you can use my Blogger18 code to get £10 off of a £20 spend).

If you do head over to the Yours Clothing website then make sure you check out their coming soon section because they have some dresses coming that are well worth lusting over!

Another 99p Dress - Shopping My Wardrobe

You'll probably remember a month or two when we all had a bit of a shopping frenzy with the 99p Yours Clothing Dresses. I was so excited about the dresses that I made my dad buy me one and have it sent home - obviously I am back here now and finally have my hands on it!

They don't have the dress on the site any more, but it's a great testament to the different dresses that Yours Clothing offer, so I thought I would share a few snaps anyway!

To be honest with you, this dress might have sat in my wardrobe if it hadn't been for my Lent challenge of shopping my wardrobe. I haven't bought a new piece of clothing for over 30 days now! In the interest of keeping my clothing choices different I put this on and really liked it - the shopping my wardrobe for Lent challenge is doing me well!

I am also wearing my Boohoo leggings which you can see reviewed here.

Life's Pretty Rosey

Yesterday, I had the second of three 'leaving parties' in London and what a night it was. I went to Reflex in Watford and had a great night with lots of my favourite people. As you know I am on a no clothing spend for Lent so I was a bit worried about what to wear. When Yours Clothing kindly offered to send me something I picked up this floral number and I love it!

The material itself is thick and stretchy which means that it gives a nice fit. I would say the size is quite generous and I could have gotten away with it being a size smaller. I wore it with leggings just because of the weather but I am pretty sure when it is warmer this will be a dress I could wear to get my legs out.

I really love the floral print of the dress and think it's really pretty and girlie. Yours Clothing seem to have loads of pretty dresses at the moment, definitely worth checking out! This one can be bought here & is currently the bargain price of £28.00!

Have you bought anything new lately? I would love to hear all about it!

The 99p Dress Challenge - It's My Turn!

So... it's finally Friday which means that 1) tomorrow I can finally have a night out I have been looking forward to and 2) it's the polka dot dresses turn in the 99p dress challenge. If you're not sure what the 99p dress challenge is, have a read up here!

When the Yours Clothing 99p dresses came out, I managed to snap up this little number! I love the polka dot pattern and the fact that it was only 99p pleases me very much! I found it to be a very generous size, I bought my normal size and it's a little too big - so you can easily size down if you decide to get this dress yourself.

I know lots of people liked the longer length of this dress, but for me it was a bit of a strange length. Not knee length, but not quite midi - but that's probably because of my vertical challenge-ness. I decided to tuck the dress up into the belt, to make it a length I was much happier with.

The dress came with a red shiny belt which actually fit (yay) but I felt much better in my trusty belt, which is the one you can see in these pics.

All in all I would say the dress is well made and I like the vibrancy of the blue in the dress. The dress is back up to full price now but it would still make a very welcome addition to a wardrobe I would say. It's for sale here.

Anyway, if you want to keep track then you can follow the #99pDressChallenge on Twitter!

Don't forget, if you haven't used Yours Clothing before then you can use the code 'blogger18' to get £10 off of a £20 spend. New customers only but what better excuse do you need to give them a try?
