I Have Sinned: Money Saving Monday

Last week I blogged about a July spending ban that some of us were undertaking and I was all set to have a month of no spending on clothing... and then Blackpool happened!

At the weekend I went to Blackpool for a night (more about that in another post) and so took one dress with me for the Friday night! Saturday morning I was persuaded (by my parents of all people) to stay another night and go out with them to see a show! So... I had nothing to wear!!

Blackpool has quite a nice New Look Inspire range so I had to go emergency clothes shopping - It's not my fault!! Anyway, I got this dress from New Look for just £13 in the sale, so even though I spent I tried to do it sensibly... and not bad for £13!

I teamed it up with my Yours Clothing kimono and a cheapie Primark necklace and I was good to go!  I didn't get any proper pictures so this toilet mirror, drunken selfie will have to do for now!

So - I have sinned... SORRY!! I am going to try and keep it up for the rest of the month though - wish me luck!!

A New Look At Fashion

You might have seen a post I did before with Simply Be, looking at how you can dress the same as your smaller friends - even if you are plus size. I wanted to show this in a different way and the lovely team at New Look were happy to help and kindly sent me and my sister a dress each!

Once again I roped in my sister to help me and we set about choosing items to wear from New Look. It's great that we have a choice of using the same retailer even if our bodies are so different. With this post we decided to do something different and choosing non-matching items.

I wanted to show that you can dress however you want, even if you are different sizes. My sister and I want to dress differently, but that doesn't mean that we wouldn't enjoy a shopping spree in the same place - as you can see, New Look lets us do this!

Lisa choose this Mela Navy Stripe Floral Skater Dress, which is out of stock now but there are plenty of patterns like it. It is a material that has no give or stretch in it, so that's worth remembering when you do order. It's only £24 too so bit of a bargain!

I chose this palm tree print dress from New Look Inspire and I love it. The dress is a lovely material and I found it to be a very generous size. I like the fact that it's black as I don't have many dark colours, but the pattern is also lovely and really breaks it up - and the dress has pockets, which I know so many of you love! It's less than £20 too! YAY!

So there you go, another way you can your friends can all shop in the same place :)

Thanks for reading

OMCZ #20: The Colour of Confidence

I have wanted to be involved in a 'bloggers challenge' for some time now and have struggled to find one I feel I'll be able to contribute too! This week I was reminded about the 'Outside My Comfort Zone' posts that go up every Wednesday - and so here I am!

Sadly, my first week has to be a bit of a let down - I am in Kent looking after a poorly friend and didn't really bring any 'outfitty' things with me!

Seeing as this weeks theme is 'The Colour of Confidence' I thought I would post a couple of old oufits rather than back out of the challenge completely!

The Colour of Confidence by Vicky: My theme is going to "The Colour of Confidence".  For me, red is the colour of confidence and everything I wear it, be it lipstick or clothing; I feel an extra boost. What is your confidence colour?

I tried to look through my photos to see if a colour stood out in my outfits... and I think it has to be pink (or patterned, but seeing as we're going for colour - I have gone for pink!).

I know, this isn't the greatest Outside My Comfort Zone challenge post ever - but I promise to come back fighting next week! For now, pink is definitely my confidence colour!

Of course... I do were red, the traditional colour of confidence too!

Please take a few minutes to check out the other ladies in the challenge:)

Trying New Shops is Hard!

For years I avoided ASOS Curve. I heard from a friend once that they bought something that didn't fit properly and so I avoided it too! Their bad experience was enough to put me off of even trying it! For me, I went for years of sticking with shops I knew! When you know how a shop cuts their tops and how their jeans fit on you, it can be tempting to stick with them, after all - better the devil you know!

However, I am happy to say I WAS WRONG! My wardrobe is now packed full of delightful ASOS Curve items and my shopping basket on their site full of even more. I genuinely can not get enough of their pretty clothes and sales-goodness! I am sad that I missed out on so many years of happy shopping just because I was too afraid to try.

Being afraid might seem like a big word - perhaps apprehensive is better! But when you're spending big bucks on clothes, the last thing you want is to have to send them back again. Not only is this a hassle, but you have the disappointment of holding something pretty in your hands that will never be yours!

However... I beg you - try!! If there is a dress, a top, a pair of jeans or anything else you have seen that you liked but though "oh not, that won't fit me" - try! What's the worst that could happen? Over the last 12 months I have tried so many new retailers (Topsy Curvy, AX Curve, Excite Clothing....) and I am so glad I did.

On this note, Yours Clothing have let me give you an offer! By using the voucher code "Blogger 6" at their check out you'll get £10 off of a £20 spend. You must be a new customer and sales items don't count, but it could be the perfect way for you to try something on the site for size!

They have loads on offer on their site! I found their sizes pretty true to size, so whatever you are looking for, order in your normal size, use the code 'Blogger6' to save yourself your money and then await your exciting package of clothes to come through the post!

I'd love to know what you bought and what you thought!

"Fat Girls In Bodycon Dresses Make Me Vom"

Ok... So they don't actually make me vom, but work with me on this...

I am proud of the mixture of friends that I have. I like to think that they're mostly open-minded and non-judgmental... And then every so often (and I mean very rarely) one of them says something that makes me sit back and think!

Today one of my friends had a Facebook status up that was something along the lines of "Big girls shouldn’t wear body con dresses, it makes me vom". The comments on the status went on to say that she thinks that they shouldn't even sell these dresses in that size and that because she is bigger she has a right to say it.

It will come as a surprise, but I am not one to keep my mouth shut. I absolutely disagree with her opinion and couldn’t sit back and say nothing. I wrote on there that I was a fat girl who wore these body con dresses and felt that her opinion was wrong. I understand completely if someone chooses not to wear any style of clothing, but condemning a whole group of people for wearing something just because you do not have the confidence to do so seems alien to me.

I told her that when I dressed in the morning (or the evening) I did not dress for her or anyone else. I explained to her that it was not my job to be visually pleasing to her or anyone else and that just because she didn't like that style of clothing tat doesn’t mean that others don't! And then the status got deleted.

Wear what you want and feel happy doing it!
I was all ready to come on here all guns blazing and rant about the status - but I put something on my Facebook status and 20 people liked it straight away. It made me realise that actually not everyone thinks this way and that most people are happy to let others get on with their own lives.

I know that we all take a second glance when we see someone wearing something unique but I don't know of many people who would claim that something shouldn’t be sold to people just because they choose not to wear it themselves! It made me sad and angry, that someone would still think in this backwards way. We seem to be making leaps and bounds when it comes to plus size fashion and I absolutely feel that people should wear whatever they want to wear whatever their size.

When you get dressed in the morning remember to wear what you want to wear. You do not dress to please other people. It is not your job to look good for other people. You were put on this planet to live your live and not be visually pleasing to people - especially strangers!

If you are someone who feels sick because of what other people wear... Ask yourself why what they have in their wardrobe or on their body affects you!

And then, like a beacon of hope I came across this video by the BEAUTIFUL Tess Munster this morning, which sums up perfectly what I wanted to say, in much less words!

I love her and I feel that she is such an inspiration and quite frankly, if you can't see her beauty then you need your eyes testing.

Thankfully there are online campaigns such as 'Eff Your Beauty Standards' and 'Honor My Curves' which are helping to pave the way online for people to be happy in their own skin. Personally I love both of these campaigns and love reading peoples involvement in them! If you haven't come across them before, please check them out!

How do you deal with peoples negatives comments?

New Discoveries: House of Fraser

I think its great how more stores, websites and retailers are offering plus size ranges and clothes. I especially love it when you discover a range you haven't heard of before or a website you didnt expect to see offering plus size, offering just that.

Thanks to a post on Facebook today I have discovered that House of Fraser do a range of plus size dresses (and maybe more, I got distracted by the very pretty dresses that they offer) and with their current sale there are some amazing bargains!

Here is a selection of the dresses in their clearance section on the site - with plenty of them going up to a size 28.

They also have some lovely, and not too pricey dresses in the non clearance section of the website that are well worth checking out - loads in a size 28 and lots more if you are able to size down a few :)

I will do a proper ABC feature soon enough, but for now a pieces that stood out for me were:

Flower Print Dress - £10.00 (BARGAIN!)
Floral Print Knee Length Dress
Printed dress with belt
Have you bought anything from House of Fraser? What did you think?

Pink To Make The Boys Wink - Inspiring Fashion From New Look

I went shopping in Blackpool this weekend and had a bit of a mooch in New Look. The Blackpool store isn't one of the biggest I have seen but I was really impressed by their Inspire range. Although store displays say that they do up to a size 26 I saw plenty of items up to a size 32, so it seems that they are rolling out bigger sizes in their stores as well as online.

It made me realise I hadn't browsed the New Look website for a little bit so I had a look this morning, what better way to brighten up a dull Monday morning! I love some of the pieces that their website offers at the moment, here is my ABC look at some of their pink items!

Absolute Bargain - Bright Pink Ruffle Neck Dress

Currently in the sale this bargain of a dress is just £6  - you probably won't get much more of a bargain that that! Even at full cost it was just £12.99, so it really is good value for money. I love the fit of this dress and even though it relatively plain piece the bright colour and the ruffle neck line more than makes up for it. If you like to wear bright colours then this is a great staple piece to add to your wardrobe! You can buy this one here!

Best Value For Money - Coral Crochet Collar Sleeveless Chiffon Dress

The sleeveless look is one that I don't rock often enough but a dress like this is could more than change my mind. I love the coral colour of the dress and the lace neckline makes it a really pretty dress. I have a couple of weddings come up in the next few weeks and at just £19.99 I think this could be a perfect, bargain outfit to wear! You can buy this dress here.

Cash To Splash - Praslin Pink Floral Sweetheart Dress

It is hard to find a cash to splash item in the Inspire range because they offer such value for money. However, this sweetheart dress jumped out at me because I love the colour and pattern. It's just £34.00 and if the pink shade isn't for you, there is a black shaded one that looks just as lovely. You can buy this dress here.

If pink isn’t for you, New Look Inspire have loads of options and pieces up to a size 32 so they are well worth looking at!

Is your wardrobe dominated by one main colour or do you try to vary things?
