Plus Size Issues: Easy Access Baths

It's all well and good talking about pretty dresses and where to buy wide fit shoes, but sometimes there are other issues that are involved in living life plus size. I know that if you're smaller than me these issues might not affect you, in fact I am at a size where many of them don't affect me but it is important to recognise that they are issues for people and that sometimes we need to look for solutions.

For example, I wouldn't sit in a booth at a restaurant because I know I would be too squashed and I wouldn't be comfortable and today I argued with a man on the train because he couldn't walk passed me in the aisle - why he couldn't wait until everyone was sat down before he got up I really don't know, but that's another story!

One thing I know many people with plus size bodies struggle with is baths - For example, I wouldn't be comfortable in a normal size bath - I'd be squished in about an inch of water and ain't nobody got time for that.

Without a doubt, if I ever win the lottery I'm going to build a fat friendly bathroom that is the stuff dreams are made of. I know for certain that a massive bath will feature heavily in this - maybe a big circle one! I've looked into easy access baths before and actually in the grand scheme of things they're quite affordable.

I realise that these baths are designed for the disabled and people with mobility problems, but I would definitely consider one if it was large enough for me to bathe comfortably - goodness how much I would spend in Lush if this was ever the case!

What practical thing do you have on your wishlist should you ever win the lottery?

Dear Simply Be...

Dear Simply Be...

I know as a brand you have done some really good things  - for starters even offering clothes up a size 32 puts you ahead of others! You've worked with bloggers on some fantastic campaigns incuding national TV advertising campaigns that even my thin friends have commented on.

That is why, your latest campaign really got me thinking....

You tweeted this today with the wording "We demand style & fit. No compromises." and you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I am so glad that you're finally on the same page as your shoppers.

So... I assume that you're going to be doing something about this sizing situation and ensure that those over a size 26 don't have to compromise when it comes to clothing any longer.

As you can see - when you're a size 26 you have nearly 500 dresses to choose from, as a size 32 you have no where near 250 dresses that you can select. I am sure you will agree that a larger size having less than 50% of the choices of someone smaller is a compromise that none of us should have to make - after all, your latest campaign DEMANDS that we don't put up with this any longer - and you're right!

So... Simply Be - We demand that you stop making larger (and smaller) bodies compromise.

WE DEMAND STYLE. WE DEMAND FIT.

Thanks!

Moving On, and Moving In.

Back in September I made the decision to leave the north once again and head down south - well to The Midlands at least. I've lived here ever since and I have to say I love it. Over recent months I have had a couple of where I have had to travel home for less than happy reasons, but even when I am far away from my family - I can't regret moving here.

One the things that have made moving easier is that my family are really good at using social media and Whatsapp. I speak to them most days on Whatsapp, so they never feel far away at all! In the next few months I'll move again - but staying in Birmingham!

When I moved in October, I moved into a house share - which made life much easier. Moving into a place where a landlord has to take care of everything certainly helps. I didn't have to worry about finding conveyancing solicitors or anything like that, which made the move a complete doddle! When I moved I wouldn't have known anything about any of this, so it's a good I didn't need them really!

Since moving I actually now work for an estate agents, so I have learned more about this side of things that I ever knew before - so when I do start to think about moving out of my houseshare I'm in a much better position than before. I'll feel like I actually know what I am doing when the time comes. I now know that they help with the contracts and exchanges of houses and that actually their job is a pretty important one!

Now the weather is starting to FINALLY get better I'm looking forward to getting out and about exploring Birmingham some more and perhaps deciding which area of this fantastic city I want to live in!

Where is your favourite part in the UK?

Shoes: What I'm Feeling This Month

Last month I bought yet another pair of boring work shoes and I wondered to myself why I hadn't mentioned them on my blog before.

I have to wear smart shoes to work but as I have a short walk to the office it's also really important to me that they're comfortable. These shoes from George at Asda have been a life saver. They're only £6 a pair, so they don't last the longest time ever but for £6 I don't really care.

What I love about these is that they come in half sizes, so even though they're not technically wide fit, I can size up to 6.5 and they fit perfectly - they're also cushioned, so they're nice and comfortable.

Shoes I'm Lusting Over

These women's shoes from Brantano are really nice -  I like the fact that they come in wide fit and they're nice and colourful. If I am wearing a plain coloured dress then sometimes I want to wear a pair of bright shoes with it and these wide fit flamenco shoes fit the bill perfectly.

New Look always do really good wide fit shoes. As I always wear flats I know that often retailers stick to plain and boring styles for these, which isn't always what you want. I really like these wide fit navy gingham flat shoes from New Look.

Lastly I am in love with these seahorse shoes from ASOS - not only are they a really unique design but they're in wide fit, which is always a winner!

What shoes are on your lustlist at the moment?

New Plus Size Clothing Range: Quiz Clothing

Over the past couple of weeks there have been some whispering 's of a new plus size clothing range by clothing brand Quiz Clothing, and it finally launched yesterday. It's been put together by the very talented Felicity Hayward, who I know is very keen to make clothing inclusive for everyone.

When I first saw the Quiz Curve range was going to be launched I was both happy and disappointed that their range goes up to a size 28. For me, a size 28 just doesn't cut it when it comes to a full plus size range, but then it is better than the up to size 24 offerings we're so often given. I have to remind myself that fat fashion is improving and it is small steps that we're having to undertake. A range up to a size 28 means that it is inclusive of so many more people, and that has to be a positive thing!

Perhaps more importantly, the actual clothing range itself is really lovely. At some point I may get a couple of pieces myself and see if I can make them work on my body - after all, we all know the importance of ignoring clothes sizes and just trying them on!

That said, if you're below a size 28 then you should definitely give them a try - the range itself has some proper lovely pieces. What I love is that they have the same pattern across a number of items, which means that there should be something for most people.

I can't wait for people to start buying from the range, so I can read some reviews and see how they all fit different bodies.  Personally I'll be trying one or two of their going-out dresses, even if I have to team them up with leggings due to the length being short. And then, we can all keep our fingers crossed for a slightly larger range of sizes with the next seasons range?

What are your favourite pieces from the collection?

A gambling club can win you either a first store reward, bingo room or play cash. Free online bingo games is unquestionably something that all online gamblers cherish, however as an accomplished bingo player, you ought to take in more about it, and somebody simply beginning to take in about what an online clubhouse is and how to get your hands on, one can surely turn into an awesome favourable position for you.

A few bingo websites give you a 200% to £300 Casino or 200% up to £250 that look truly stunning. In any case, you ought to realise that it's far better on the off chance that you pick huge stores. Different bingo sites even offer a 100% up to £1000 which implies fair chances of bonuses online!

So, the bonuses that you crave for, the prizes which you wait for, and the jackpots that you bait for are made accessible from your smart devices today. Plus Size Blogging: Fighting The Good Fight

When I first started blogging I did it because I was passionate about discovering fashion. When I first started blogging I was brand new to fashion choices, especially dresses and similar items so discovering these was exciting. As a size 30/32 I couldn’t believe that a whole world of fashion I hadn’t ever heard of was passing me by. I lived in jeans and t shirts because I thought these was the best (*only) option for someone of my size.

I started blogging because I realised I couldn’t be the only fat female who had reached their late 20s feeling confined by fashion choices they assumed they had. Once I discovered a whole new world of plus size fashion that I wanted to share with everyone else – and so my life as a blogger began.

At first I was excited and felt invigorated by what I saw in front of me – until I started to realise that plus size fashion is just as stifling in many ways as I always thought. Yes, over recent years plus size fashion HAS improved – if you’re less than a size 24 and have the “right shaped” body.

Once I started to become disheartened my blogging took a new turn and I started things such as #WhatIWouldHaveSpent and #WeAreTheThey – a sort of one woman tirade against a world of fashion that is doing so many people a dis-justice.

The problem is that I often felt like I was knocking my head against a brick wall – the truth is that brands aren’t prepared to listen and we’re always going to have fashion campaigns that exclude certain sets of bodies. After a while I lost motivation and without really realising it, I stopped blogging about what was/IS really important to me.

Over the last couple of days I have had a chance to read Twitter and I can see the same AMAZING voices shouting about the changes we NEED to, calling out brands to do better and demanding more. I realised that I missed being a part of this – that me giving up the good fight was doing no one any good.

So, expect lots of rants coming up over the next few days. Because let me tell you now, brands are NOT doing good enough, fashion campaigns are NOT doing what they should be and people are not using their platforms to make a difference. I want to use the small voice I have to try and make a small difference, or at least feel as though I am trying my very best to make it happen.

Inspire me – what in the plus size world do you want to see changed? What isn’t good enough?
What should I blog about?

Thanks for reading as ever

The Rise of the Cute Handbag Dog

If you go to most major cities, you will see sweet miniature dogs popping over the tops of shoulder bags and hand bags, smiling at the from in their comfort pouches, beautifully groomed and usually sporting a glitzy collar. Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are famous for their handbag dogs. Perfect little Chihuahuas, Pomeranians and teacup Yorkshire Terriers are the best breed to accompany us anywhere. There’s absolutely no doubt – they are super cute and we all want one!
So, how much does it cost to invest in one of these little furry friends? Recently, voucher provider Voucherbox looked into the cost of owning a pet and reported back that the typical amount we can expect to spend on the lifetime of our canine furry friends is £15, 382! While this figure does include vets, kennels, toys and treats, it is of course an average and does not account for the cost of a decent groomer, suitable handbags, doggie accessories and bling collars.
Grooming
Being pampered is a necessity for most dogs, especially small toy dogs and a session can range anywhere from £25 upwards. Groomers are now offering all sorts of luxury treatments at doggie spas to give your furry friend the very best experience at the parlour. From aromatherapy baths to pooch makeovers and de-tangling treatments, dogs really can have the pure luxury they deserve.
Accessories
From jewel-encrusted sparkly collars to cute little coats, dogs really can have the complete charming wardrobe to their owner’s heart’s desire! Tweed bolster dog beds (that look like a mini sofa!), luxury faux fur beanbags and chic wooden hand-carved beds are all the rage, ensuring anyone who comes to your home knows that your dog has the number one treatment. Not only can our little toy dogs have the luxury of a Barbour-style waterproof wax jacket, but they can also have a cashmere wool jumper underneath to keep them extra warm…
Handbags Galore!
Why have a cute little toy dog, if we can’t carry them in our handbag? Dog carriers are all the rage, from posh couture to designer Burberry and faux fur slings. Wooflink and Louisdog seem to be some of the most popular with their sleek but smart designs and PetLondon have a wide range of cute different styles to suit you and your pooch. Prices seem to start from £20 upwards but most of the funkier designer handbags are in excess of £120. Our little dogs are the perfect size to go anywhere with us, and their small legs should not be expected to walk far, so a handbag is an ideal solution. From graceful rucksacks, slings and backpacks to elegant travel bags and sturdy sports bags, or ditzy printed shoulder bags and leather handbags, there really is no excuse to go anywhere alone ever again! Always make sure you carry a warm blanket, so that your handbag friend doesn’t get cold in the winter months too.

Handbag dogs have become one of the ultimate accessories for all of us who love our sweet pet pooch and because they are so perfectly sized for the job, they are becoming more and more popular in fashion. Our toy dogs are easy to look after, conveniently small to come with us everywhere and above all, pure eye candy for fashion types. Dog handbags give us the best excuse to show off our ball of fluff, escorting us wherever we go and putting a smile on many faces who see them!

Sunday Stripes

A few weekends ago I was invited out for a Sunday carvery with a friend of mine and jumped at the chance. Sunday dinner is without a doubt my favourite meal in the world, so being able to do this in a countryside pub sounded perfect! Luckily a few days beforehand the lovely lot at Lovedrobe had sent me this beaut of a dress so I knew exactly what I wanted to wear.

Slowly but surely Lovedrobe are starting to get more clothes in sizes 26 and above. They actually have a pretty decent selection of size 32 dresses in at the moment, which is always good news if you ask me. I'm a big fan of these style of dresses, where it looks like you're wearing a top and a skirt - I have a few older ASOS ones and it's something that Scarlet and Jo do extremely well too!

I liked the pale pink and black of this dress, because it is lovely looking without being too bright. I love bright colours don't get me wrong but I thought this made a nice change. It has a tiny little bit of netting inside the bottom of the skirt which I really liked too.

Size wise it was a tiny bit tight but I actually preferred it that way. I liked the shape it gives me and the fact that the skirt flairs out a bit is a shape I enjoy. If you're much bigger busted than me you might struggle or need to size up, if you're able to.

I have to share with you the dinner I had, at The Forest Pub in Feckenham - it was absolutely beautiful! I had this dinner washed down with a glass of really nice rose and to be honest with you I went home a very happy girl. I am by no means a professional food blogger but I would recommend this place if you're in the area, it was lovely!

What have you all been up to?

Surviving Winter

Have you got snow? Do you love it? I'm going to be a right party pooper here and say that I do not like snow at all! I can admit that it is sometimes nice to look out from the warmth of your own home, but actually getting out and about when the weather is cold, wet and icy is not my cup of tea at all!

However, what I am hating most about this type of year is this stupid "winter virus" that is going around. Have you had it? Know someone who has?

Last week I spent 2 days pretty much wanting to do nothing but sleep - I figured I was just a bit run down and needed to catch up on sleep! However then one day I woke up with a very sore throat and a cough, which hasn't gone away since! I do feel a bit coldy, but in general it's mostly this annoying cough that is the biggest pain, I am pretty sure my work colleagues would agree with you!

The other night I actually laid awake with earache, which felt strange because that always strikes me as more of something that children suffer with. In desperation I started to Google for help and ideas and stumbled across The Independent Pharmacy.

I hadn't actually realised that it was so easy to get medicines and prescriptions online, but what a really good idea!? I know that personally, sometimes I am just too busy to go to an actual shop and buy stuff - which is probably why my online shopping habit has increased so steadily. So the fact that you can possibly get medicines online is a really good idea!

They have loads of sections for general health and beauty too, so you are able to get all sorts of items in one place - and they deliver it to your door, which always works well for me!

I've spent my week off dosed up on cold and flu tablets and drinking cough mixture like its going out of fashion, so I am hoping the end is in sight for this illness.

Hope you've managed to escape feeling too poorly!

Debz xx

Avoiding Holiday Mishaps

We all love a good holiday, whether its some place hot where you will be spending most of your time drinking cocktails by the pool, somewhere you can get your winter sports fix and spend the evenings by a log fire in a cabin or a weekend shopping trip in New York, we all like a change of scenery and a break from every day life.

When going on holiday there are so many things to consider, from where you want to go, things you want to see and do, what your going to take with you, where you are going to stay, how much money you'll need etc but one of the last things people think about, if they think about it at all, is what if something goes wrong? and that is where jefferies-solicitors.com comes in. Among other things they cover holiday sickness and accidents. Not something you want to think about when you are planning time away but these things happen a lot more than we realise.

I believe the key to avoiding holiday disasters the best you can, is through preparation. Some eventualities we obviously can not prepare for but being prepared for what we can will give a lot of peace of mind. There are a few small things that can cause huge disasters when going abroad and these are the things we have control over and can plan ahead to avoid mishap.

Passport- know where your passport is at all times, check your passport is in date for travel to and from your destination, check any passport rules and regulations in your destination country prior to travel and check you have your passport at every stage of travel

Health- if you have any heath conditions inform your GP you intend to travel, get travel insurance and make sure you have enough of your prescription medication for the entirety of your trip and of course be careful while away, nobody wants to spend their holiday in hospital in a foreign country.

Money- inform you bank that you will be travelling (this one comes from experience) I had my card stopped and the bank calling me because they thought my card was stolen. Change your money before you travel as you will save money over changing currency at the airport. Budget for your trip and add a little extra for emergencies, it is so so easy to run out of money when you're having fun.

These are just my little tips from previous travel experience and even though they seem obvious and like very small things they can lead to much bigger problems once you're away. By planning and preparing before you travel you lessen the risk of things going wrong, leaving you to enjoy your holiday exactly as you should.

Where was your last holiday? please tell me it was mishap free

The Importance Of Caring For Your Loved Ones

If you follow me on social media, you may already know that respite care is something that is close to my heart at the moment - which is why when I was invited to write about it, I jumped at the chance to write about it.

I don't want to make the post too personal or emotionally because I'm not quite at that stage yet, but what I will say is that when it comes to your loved ones getting the care they need, it's really important to research and make sure you choose the right place for them. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions, check procedures and even visit beforehand. At the end of the day, this new team of people are going to be taking care of the day to day care of your loved one, so you need to know that they are in safe and capable hands.

Image result for respite care

There are different reasons why you may need to put someone you care about into a care home, and it is never an easy decision to make. It's always an odd one, because even though you know in your heart that it is the right decision it's a really difficult one to make.

However, in my experience as long as you choose the care home the whole thing can be dealt with really well. It's actually a relief to know that someone you love is being cared for well and looked after properly, even when you are not there.

For us it was a thought process of "would we be happy here?" and when the answer was yes - that was the one we chose. However there is a really good online respite care guide that can help.

If you are ever in that position, just know that however hard it is - you're doing it for the right reasons.

Lots of Love

Living Off The Grid: I Would Miss

I have to admit, I am a bit of a social media addict! Well, when I say a bit I mean a lot! I can function without it in a sense - say for example when I am out for dinner or having drinks with friends, but I do generally check my phone all of the the time. So I guess my first thought when it comes to what I would miss if I lived remotely for a while would be social media.

That said, I am currently sat in bed, under a duvet because our boiler is being fixed and we don't have any heating at the moment - It's only today but I can't help but think that a couple of Flogas gas bottles might come in handy - after all, they're perfect for heating caravans so maybe they'd work for my house too?

Then I realise that I am sat watching Hollyoaks as I write this, so maybe it's actually TV I would actually miss. After a long day at work I like nothing more than watching a few soaps while I unwind for the evening, would I really want to be without those?

Actually when it comes to living away from home comforts it's really, really difficult to decide what i would miss the most. I love the convenience of clothes shopping online, chatting to my family on my mobile and watching TV as and when I want. Of course, in the real world I could survive without those things - plenty of people do - what the big question is, would I want to?

My Top 5 Things I Would Miss

 - Mobile Phone
 - Social Media
 - TV
 - Central Heating
 - Snap Chat Filters ;)

Also - I refrain the right change my mind on this list, at any given stage!

What would you miss if you were to live without your home comforts for a while?

Pom pom heels

When it comes to fashion icons, no one is more shoe obsessed than the infamous Carrie Bradshaw.
Her designer habit might be a bit over-budget for us mere mortals, but you can channel her fun and sexy style with these red tasselled pom pom heels – keep the rest of your outfit simple and let them do all the talking.
