Get The London (New) Look - Plus Size Dresses for Autumn

A few weeks ago I was in London, which is probably my favourite place in the world to be. Seeing as I don't get to London as often as I would like my days here are often non-stop. I like to pack in as much and see as many people as possible.

One of the days I was there I wanted to catch up with Leighanne from Bump & Beyond and her daughter Darcy. Some of you will know that Leigh and I used to live together and I actually lived with Darcy for the first few weeks of her life too. Darcy was the first baby I held properly and I can't believe how fast she is growing up.

The journey to visit Leighanne in North London is just over an hour of public transport so I knew I wanted to wear something comfortable, especially as I knew I'd be going out in something more dressy later that evening.

I decided that this dress from New Look would be perfect. It's a darker dress than I would often wear, but I have decided to try and step out of my comfort zone a little. It's a nice dress to throw on and know that you'll be comfortable. It looks great and I would probably wear it without leggings or at least with flip flops in the nicer weather.

Of course it was a standard autumn day - nice and bright but a bit cooler than you expect, so I threw on leggings with it. They're also from New Look - they're high waisted so they give a nice amount of support when I wear them. I found them a bit long, but that's pretty much the story of my life when it comes to leggings!

As I didn't know how long I would be waiting around bus stops I thought a cardigan would be pretty wise too! The bag is from New Look  (Pink Laser Cut Out Shopper Bag) and has fast become one of my favourites for every day use. It's a brilliant size to throw stuff into and know that you'll still have room for a bit of shopping if you want to.

And look how much fun Darcy and I had <3

A New Look At Savvy Plus Size Shopping

A couple of weeks ago I discovered that my local New Look still had an Inspire section. To be honest I rarely look for clothing on the high street so I just assumed that it would have disappeared when I heard that they had gotten rid of so many. However, I was happily surprised to discover it's still there!

On pay day I popped into do some shopping before work and I am so glad that I did. For starters they had an amazing sale on which meant I came away with 2 dresses, a top and a pair of shoes for £21 - now that's enough to make anyone happy! On top of that, despite the signage saying up to size 26 I picked up a top in a 32 and a dress in a 28. It might sound like such a small thing, but buying affordable clothing in my size ON THE HIGH STREET really did make me very happy!

I managed to pick up this beautiful dress for the 'hefty' price tag of £7! It's a really nice material which clings to my body and gives me a shape that I enjoy. I'm wearing this in a size 28. It's a big clingy so it does ride up a little - hence the wise decision to wear leggings! The shoes were £3 in the New Look sale too - YAY!

Now as you know I am a fan of belts to give me a shape - I couldn't fit a belt I liked so instead I improvised. You can't see it in the photos but around my 'waist' I have the strap of a handbag wrapped around me in a belt style. It's nice and tight so I really like what it does to my body. Before I started really plus size blogs I probably wouldn't have improvised in that way before but I am glad that I did.

I can't find the dress on the website, but they have loads of stuff in their sale so it's well worth a browse.

What's been your best bargain lately?

Dark Shades for Summer - A New Look Inspire Review

A few weeks ago New Look Inspire were kind enough to send me this lovely maxi dress. As affordable, plus size fashion goes New Look Inspire seems to be doing so well for 2015. Of course, as ever I wish they would do more above a size 26 but I have talked about that before, so I won't rant again.

To be honest with you, I wouldn't often think of black for summer - but then it's not a colour I wear very much at all. However, I do love this look and think it's great for a bit of coverage in the warmer weather. I'm wearing the Inspire Black Jersey Bardot Neck Maxi Dress in a size 28 and it fits great.

I do love a maxi dress for summer - they are so easy to just throw on and know that you are going to spend the whole day feeling cool and comfortable. The arms/sleeves on this can be worn in different ways too.

I styled this quite simply on this day, because it was just for a day out around the shops. However, I can see it with neon accessories and cute shoes to brighten up the colour a bit too!

Do you have any New Look bits in your wardrobe? What are your faves?

Kimono: Old Style New Look

Kimonos are nothing new, they have been around for a number of years. However this season that are as fashionistas would say 'bang on trend'. I am so pleased that so many plus size retailers are taking this on board and providing plenty of choice! I have a few of them and they are definitely fast becoming a staple diet of my wardrobe.

One brand that seem to be doing this quite well at the moment is New Look, who have plenty of in stock online and in store. They recently sent me a lovely grey kimono which I really love. I wanted it because lots of the kimonos around at the moment seem to be big, bold, brightly coloured patterns.

Normally I wouldn't be one to shy away from a bit of colour, but when you have a bright coloured pattern dress it is hard to team this with another bright, colour pattern - which is where this grey kimono is so perfect! The grey kimono I have doesn't seem to be on the website any more, but they have loads of nice tops and kimonos from the Inspire range so make sure you check them out! I haven't included outfit pics of this because it isn't available any more but there are so many good alternatives.

A glimpse of the grey kimono - such a lovely colour

For Plus North, I wore my trusty Yours Clothing kimono, which has become a firm favourite of mine. I teamed it up with this amazing Topsy Curvy t-shirt, which I have practically lived in since they sent it to me.

Topsy Curvy are a brand that actually listen to their customers, which for me is amazing! They know that the larger end of plus size is often under-catered for and so are trying to push out new products, including this t shirt which they stock right up to a size 36!

I have also worn this kimono with an amazing maxi dress I got from New Look a few weeks ago and this has fast become one of my favourite outfits. As is so often the case with New Look dresses, I found this maxi dress to be a generous size.

One thing I have become more used to recently is mixing and matching brands. Each brand has something different to offer, so matching a plain Topsy Curvy top with a bright Yours Clothing kimono or a plain New Look kimono with a bright ASOS dress is fine!

I Have Sinned: Money Saving Monday

Last week I blogged about a July spending ban that some of us were undertaking and I was all set to have a month of no spending on clothing... and then Blackpool happened!

At the weekend I went to Blackpool for a night (more about that in another post) and so took one dress with me for the Friday night! Saturday morning I was persuaded (by my parents of all people) to stay another night and go out with them to see a show! So... I had nothing to wear!!

Blackpool has quite a nice New Look Inspire range so I had to go emergency clothes shopping - It's not my fault!! Anyway, I got this dress from New Look for just £13 in the sale, so even though I spent I tried to do it sensibly... and not bad for £13!

I teamed it up with my Yours Clothing kimono and a cheapie Primark necklace and I was good to go!  I didn't get any proper pictures so this toilet mirror, drunken selfie will have to do for now!

So - I have sinned... SORRY!! I am going to try and keep it up for the rest of the month though - wish me luck!!

A New Look At Fashion

You might have seen a post I did before with Simply Be, looking at how you can dress the same as your smaller friends - even if you are plus size. I wanted to show this in a different way and the lovely team at New Look were happy to help and kindly sent me and my sister a dress each!

Once again I roped in my sister to help me and we set about choosing items to wear from New Look. It's great that we have a choice of using the same retailer even if our bodies are so different. With this post we decided to do something different and choosing non-matching items.

I wanted to show that you can dress however you want, even if you are different sizes. My sister and I want to dress differently, but that doesn't mean that we wouldn't enjoy a shopping spree in the same place - as you can see, New Look lets us do this!

Lisa choose this Mela Navy Stripe Floral Skater Dress, which is out of stock now but there are plenty of patterns like it. It is a material that has no give or stretch in it, so that's worth remembering when you do order. It's only £24 too so bit of a bargain!

I chose this palm tree print dress from New Look Inspire and I love it. The dress is a lovely material and I found it to be a very generous size. I like the fact that it's black as I don't have many dark colours, but the pattern is also lovely and really breaks it up - and the dress has pockets, which I know so many of you love! It's less than £20 too! YAY!

So there you go, another way you can your friends can all shop in the same place :)

Thanks for reading

A Meshy Night Out With Friends

A couple of weeks ago, the lovely team at New Look gave me the chance to choose a couple of items from the Inspire range. You may remember the first item I received, the pink tartan dress. The other dress I chose I saved for last Saturday, which was my leaving do for moving away from London. I chose this Inspire Teal Floral Mesh Panel Dress and I love it!

I can't believe that I managed to pick up the dress for the bargain price of £8.00! I actually picked this up at the Tottenham Court Road store and it's showing up as out of stock on the website at the moment, but please keep your eye out for it!

Believe it or not, I am wearing a size 24 dress... The elasticated underbust is VERY stretchy, I could have gotten away with a 22 just as easily. I have to say that this dress is a little different to what I usually wear but I love it! I love that it's from Inspire, which is doing more and more items all of the time - which is only ever a positive thing!

You might notice that my hair looks a little different in the photos. I actually had a hairpiece fitted and made (it's clip in) by the very talented Campbell Wigs... a full review of that will be coming next week, but make sure you check out their page!

As you can see, it was a brilliant night!

Have you shopped at Inspire lately? What caught your eye?

Skater Girl

I have read a few reviews of the twin packs of skater dresses from New Look Inspire, but I had never gotten around until trying them! Before Christmas I had £30.00 of vouchers, so decided to take the plunge.

I went for a twin pack containing a heart print skater dress (as pictured) and a red one. I can't see it on the site now, but they do have some great ones for sale!

http://www.newlook.com/shop/inspire-plus-sizes/dresses/multi-pack/multi-packs/_/N-9h3Z1z141u4Z1z141rz

I found the dresses to be a great fit, although a little short to be worn without leggings. They're a decent quality and pretty stretchy what is great.

When you consider that these twin packs of skater dresses are £20.00, you really cant go far wrong. It's always have a couple of go-to dresses for day to day wear and these certainly cater to that.

Have you tried any of them? What did you think?

Aztec Dress & A New Leggings Company

Just after Christmas I managed to snap up this dress in the New Look Inspire sale. It's a bit small for me, but I don't mind a cosy fit so its all good. I don't have any aztec type print dresses and I think it was about £12 in the Christmas Sale, so you can't go far wrong really!

I teamed it up with leggings from Big Bloomers Company.

Last week The Big Bloomers Company contacted me about reviewing their products - their website is amazing and they offer all sorts of items up to a size 8XL. I chose their smallest size of leggings which were still a little too big for me - but how fantastic to have options for larger ladies. I have to say the quality of the leggings is fantastic and I'll definitely wear them with boots (so you cant notice that they're too long ha ha) and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

What did you manage to snag in the January sales?

Different Strokes For Different Folks

One thing I love about reading blogs is seeing how different people choose to style different outfits. I thought I would put together a few different examples as I find it fascinating to see. It's interesting to me to see how different dresses can look so different on ladies of vary heights, sizes, body shapes and different styles.

I love that all of these dress look different on different ladies, even if they're styled the same! It just goes to show that you never know how a dress is going to look until you try it on - so get out there, be brave and try something new!

I'd love to expand on this feature in the future - Have you got a photo of you in a dress I have? I'd love to see and if possible share it with my readers!

Thanks

OOTD: Leather Biker Jacket & ASOS Wrap Top

I know, I know - what a lovely, imaginative title - you lucky bunch! My creative juices are really flowing this morning, can you tell?

Anyway, I finally got around to wearing this lovely purple wrap dress that I got from ASOS for my birthday (thanks Gem!) and thought I should blog about it! - It's also now only £15.00 in the sale - bargain!

I teamed it with leggings (obviously!) and then to leave the house I wore my New Look biker jacket and a pretty cake scarf which I also got for my birthday!

As always I am loving my accessories - I teamed this outfit up with my new Black Heart Creatives necklace (Thanks Leighanne) and a long, heart necklace from Primark!

I am notoriously bad for wrapping up warm for winter - I hate layers and wearing too many heavy clothes so generally I don't wrap up at all! This is the first coat (jacket!) I have owned in years. That said, I do love the look and the fit of the jacket so I don't see any reason why I wouldn't carry on wearing it for winter - seeing as it's freezing already, I think we're in for a cold one!

Have you bought anything new for your winter wardrobe?

Pretty Birthday Dresses

Last week for my birthday my friend Lucia (from http://www.ucantwearthat.com) bought me a lovely new dress from New Look. I have to admit that the dress is something that I would have glanced at on the rack and not picked up. But then, hands up, I am guilty of sticking to one style of clothing as much as possible. The lack of sleeves on this dress would have put me off - even though the pattern is beautiful!

Inspire Burgundy Butterfly Skater Dress
That said - I love it!! I love the fit, I love the pattern and SHOCK HORROR I love the sleeves! I know for many people getting their fat arms out is a big deal and I guess I somehow fell under that umbrella, but actually you know what - who cares!

The truth is that, whatever I wear I will look fat! Whether I wear sleeves or no sleeves, I will still look the same shape, so why not wear whatever I like!

The dress is from New Look and goes up to a 32. I found the fit to be a good one although the material doesn't have much stretch to it, so you should probably bear that in mind when ordering. I really loved that this was patterned and pretty without being too bright - so perfect for the day time!

On the day I teamed it up with my brand new over the body bag (Thanks little sister!), leggings from Love Ur Curves, cardigan from Yours Clothing and boots from Primark.

I love that my friends help me push boundaries and wear clothes that make me feel fabulous!! If you love the dress, you can get it here.

Have you ever been 'forced' to push the boundaries of fashion and ended up loving it!?

Pushing The Fatshion Boundaries Every Day!

I bet, if you look in your wardrobe it is mainly made up of the same style of clothes. Whether you like to wear mainly black, or jeans and a top is your thing your wardrobe will (in most cases) be dominated by one type of clothing. For me, it is leggings and pretty dresses - I love them! I have learned how to make them work for me and now I am running with it! (So to speak, no actual running!)

However, it shouldn't always be like that! I learnt this weekend that trying new things often means you discover new items that you like & new ways to wear clothes!

Last week I saw this dress on the ASOS Curve website

ASOS CURVE Denim Pinafore Dress In Dark Vintage Wash
Anyway, I loved the dress and I saw plenty of people on Instagram and Twitter wearing it. However as it was out of my comfort zone, I couldn't picture wearing it myself!

This weekend my friend (Lucia from U Cant Wear That) and I went out and she was wearing the dress! When we came back to my house, I demanded that she let me try the dress on!

Even though its a bad picture and even though I am wearing it OVER an existing dress I love the way it looks! So much so, that I really want to get one for myself!
The dress is here if you want it.

While out and about I also eyed up a leather jacket that I really liked the look of in New Look Inspire. I don't wear jackets... ever! I haven't owned a coat in years... I just don't like them! But this jacket jumped out at me and I really, really liked it! I tried it on and I am in love! (It's a size too small but they didn't have my size in store - I am ordering it online today!). It's here if you want it!

So - there you have it. Not only a weekend of amazing company, Mexican food, vodka and the cinema but a learning curve & two completely new style items to add to my wardrobe - good times all round!

When was the last time you pushed the boundaries with clothes that you wear?
