She Looks Like A Corpse Someone Give Her A Burger!

*TRIGGER WARNING - Bullying & hateful words to do with size, eating disorders and more - quite a sensitive topic*

When it comes to ranting on the likes of Facebook and other social media, I am not often able to hold back, espeically when I see bullying or subtle (or not so) body bashing.

Today a photo of a very thin lady came on on my Facebook news feed. This lady is very, very thin to the 'extreme' that you can see bones poking out from under her skin. The photo had "no fat chicks" all over it and according to what I have read, it is a lady that is scared and afraid of being overweight, or fat in anyway. I am not a doctor but I guess that would indicate an eating disorder of sorts, but that is not really for me to judge. You can see the photo I am talking about here *Trigger warning, very thin body and body hatred*. You'll need to click the link as I did not want to show it without a trigger warning (something I am trying to become more aware of!)

I agree that an image like this is shocking, for the body image insults if nothing else! However, the insults and pure ignorance posted towards this photo left me flabbergasted. I understand that we need to fight body image negativity, it's something that I do every day but I do not understand why people feel that body bashing and bullying is the best way to get there?

So... So far we have that she probably has some sort of eating disorder (again I am not a doctor but she posts a lot about not wanting to be fat and she is very thin so I can only assume), according to one of the earlier comments the best way to deal with this is to 'give this girl a double cheeseburger'. Then we have the comments about her looking like a corpse and a skeleton and her body being disgusting. I don't know whether it is because  I have had body shaming comments left on my photos online or not, but these comments leave me feeling very uncomfortable and I do not understand why anyone feels that mocking a body is the best way to deal with intolerance?

Another comment about this lady looking like a corpse and now she looks like a starved animal... AN ANIMAL! Someone thinks that because this lady is very thin it is OK to compare her to an ANIMAL!!! How does that even make any sense? We also have a comparison to a tooth pick & apparently these 'bitches snap in half'... Have you ever read anything so awful? Well actually, sadly I have but that doesn't make it right!

The conversation goes on and on about how she deserves it because she fat bashed, how her body is gross, so wrong, she needs a sandwich, her body makes someone want to throw up and the last comment as I write this is that she is a "freakshow".

I don't quite know what the point of this rant is, but I needed to get it out there!

I truly, truly do not understand why people feel it is their right or their duty to comment on the body shape of another HUMAN! Not an animal or a tooth pick or even a fat whale, but a HUMAN! A person! Someone who is effected by words and lives their life being judged every day because of the shape of their body. I do not understand how people can say "Wow that skinny bitch fat bashed get her a sandwich" and think that it is OK because you know the two wrongs cancel each other out or something!

YES! Fight this lady (that is what she is - not a corpse, not a skeleton and not a freakshow) for her shallow views against fat people and her loved ones should get her help if she needs it but DO NOT use the shape of her body against her because you are no worse then the people who body shame every single day!

If you are ever tempted to use the shape of someones body against them for whatever reason, try to think about how you feel whenever others use yours against you? It's horrible - why would you want to inflict that feeling onto someone else?

Let Your Haters Be Your Motivators!

This weekend I had to witness some wicked comments on Facebook which got me thinking! I won't link to the page they were on, or reference them too much as I really do not want to give it anymore promotion than it needs.

On a BBW Facebook page, someone posted a photo of a lady in a BBW night club in a tight, short dress. The larger lady was showing some flesh, but radiated confidence. I should point out that the lady was NOT looking at the camera and as far as I can tell doesnt know the photo was taken, let alone posted by someone else on a Facebook group - which itself upset me!

However, it was actually the comments on this page that upset me the most! Ladies were SO quick to knock this other lady down. Comments about how trashy she looked, how her outfit was 'so wrong' and how she should have some self respect and wear something else. People were commenting that her outfit was inappropriate and that she should not go out in public like that, because it is not what people want to see!

My comments about how we dont dress for other people and how we should stand together as one fell on mostly deaf ears - and what a shame that is! Not only do I feel that we should all respect eachother anyway, but as a BBW group I found it upsetting that larger ladies would put down someone larger for wearing what they want.

Yes, the dress with tight and short. Yes, she showed off some flesh. Yes, it might not be something would I would wear - but who cares what they lady wears! What she does with her life and what her clothing choices, make no difference to me and my day! This lady was at a BBW night club, not a shopping trip to Asda, so let her wear what she wants to I say!

And then today - I posted this photo on Instagram!

I know, a photo of me in a pretty dress is not unusual, so you wouldn't think it would be such a big deal, but i think you'll see from these screen grabs that not everyone agrees! (I would usually block out a name, but seeing as these comments were made on a public forum (Instagram) and can be seen my anyone (my Instagram isn't private) I have chosen not to)

I have no problem at all with this lady and her life style choices, I don't even care if she looks at me and thinks I am disgusting - but what scares me is how quick she is to comment on a photo of someone she doesn't know just to try and bash them down?

The world is a big, bad scary place. The media tell us all the time that we're not good enough, that we should lose a dress size in two weeks or that we should get a bikini body for summer. All of this is thrown in our faces almost unavoidably - and I don't care, I am happy in my skin and I don't want to change. But why do ladies like the one above feel that they can comment on me and my lifestyle? Even if she doesn't understand me and my choices, I am just a stranger to her - what do I matter?

Ladies (and gentlemen), use your haters as your motivators! These people who want to rip you down and make you feel unworthy - DO NOT LET THEM! You are amazing and beautiful and don't let the world tell you otherwise. Spend time with your friends, cherish your family, buy pretty dresses whatever your size, eat too much, sleep too much, dance too much, slut drop until your thighs hurt but whatever you do, do not let them steal your shine - because you are worth more than you could even imagine!

Body Bashing Doesn't Just Happen To You!

First of all, thank you to everyone who read, shared, liked and promoted my 'Open Letter to OK Magazine' article - over 1300 people have read my blog since yesterday - thank you so much! If you're new to The (Not So) Secret Diary Of A Wannabe Princess, then hi!

Yesterday I had quite a few messages and comments from people who agreed with me, that body bashing is not OK - although it seems that not everyone thinks and feels the same way!

After a night out last night I logged onto Facebook to see that a gentleman felt the need to body bash a beautiful group of ladies. A friend of mine manages a girl band called Concrete Rose and they excitedly posted some photos of their gig up last night on Facebook
Concrete Rose & Shayne Ward at their gig last night!
It is quite obvious, even at first glance that these ladies are beautiful - but it seems that not everyone agrees!

I have blocked out his name,
but the comment is still on the Facebook page ;)

I think sometimes it takes something like this for me to take a step back and realise that everyone can encounter the same problems as me. It is sometimes easy to assume that the only people judged for the way they look at the people who don't meet the medias standard of beautiful - yet here you have a group of beautiful, thin, smiley, talented girls and still a man attempts to bring them down because of the way that they look.

The truth is that when it comes to body issues and body bashing - all of us suffer! There are so many people out there that want to bring others down for the way that they look - and not just if you're too fat. So many people it seems live their lives judging people for the way that they look and by the looks of it, it takes the bravery of being behind a computer screen for people to come out and say these nasty, spiteful needless things.

So, whoever you are - whatever you look like - hold your head up high and love who you are. We are all fighting the same battle when it comes to body bashing and feeling confident, so recognise your strengths and ignore those that try to bring you down.
