With Christmas just around the corner, for many people, this means lots of invites to social events that they are uncomfortable attending. However, I’m not a fan of missing out on something just because you’re nervous. Instead, I want to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and have a great time. Here are 3 ways to feel confident at your Christmas party!
Pick The Right Outfit
When it comes to fashion there is no right or wrong, but picking the right outfit for you is a must. This isn’t about shopping for the right shape or dressing for your size, but just wearing something that you LOVE! You deserve to feel a million dollars and this will be different for everyone. Try to step away from the habit of comparing yourself to everyone else and instead, concentrate on what you want to wear and what feels good for you. This doesn’t have to mean shopping for something new, choosing to wear something you already own is perfectly acceptable! In fact, you probably have a dress or 2 in your wardrobe that you haven’t ever worn – perhaps now is the time to give these dresses the outing they deserve?
Give Yourself a Pamper
Much like fashion, I’m not a believer in traditional beauty standards. If you don’t want to shave your legs, don’t! If you want hairless armpits, go for it! There is no right or wrong, but there is what feels right for you. For example, if you feel self-conscious about body hair and it is something that affects your everyday life, then getting in touch with a company that offers laser hair removal in London (or elsewhere), could be the right choice for you. NYLC are a company that was recently featured in the Daily Mail, so they sound like a pretty safe bet when it comes to choosing them for your hair removal needs. I don’t believe in getting procedures done like this just to please others, but if it is something that would help your confidence and help you feel more confident at your Christmas party and in general day to day life then in my opinion it is an option that could be explored.
Get Support From Friends
Remind yourself that the way you are feeling is definitely not isolated to just you, in fact, plenty of the people attending the same party as you are likely to have the same concerns. When meeting friends on nights out I always had a plan to text them when I arrived so that they could meet me outside, or at the very least tell me whereabouts they were sat so I wasn’t searching the whole venue for them. If you are feeling worried about attending any sort of event make sure you speak to the people you’re going with – that way you can arrange to meet, travel together or just offer some support. The chances are some of them will be feeling the same as you and will feel some relief that you have bought it up.
You’re Not Alone
I know I said 3 tips, but I wanted to throw in a cheeky 4th one. However you are feeling, you are not alone. There will be plenty of people feeling exactly the same about attending parties – they’ll want to cover up their arms, not show off their legs or simply cancel attending altogether. All I will say is that you are worthy of great things, no matter the size of your body! Also, the way you may be feeling is not exclusive to being plus size. So, pamper yourself if you need to, choose an outfit you feel great in and step out of your comfort zone, I promise you it will be worth it. Make some amazing memories, as if last Christmas shows us anything it is that we’re not always promised the opportunity to do that, so we need to grab it while we can.
I hope you have the best time at any parties you’re attending, I’d love to hear all about them! If you have any tips for how to feel confident at your Christmas party then feel free to share them below!
