Being More Active When Plus Size – Whatever size body you live in, you deserve to be able to be more active if you want to. I know from experience that being in a fatter body often means that you feel embarrassed to work out publicly or join a gym – but realistically that shouldn’t be the case at all. I’m here to tell you that if you want to look at being more active when plus size, then do it! Don’t let others put you off and don’t think that you have to have weight loss as a final goal, because there are so many reasons to be more active that are much more exciting then shrinking the size of your body.
Being More Active When Plus Size
Make Any Adaptations You Need
We all have different bodies and although I can’t speak as an expert on being disabled and moving your body, I do experience some difficulties in moving my body at times due to my size. There is nothing wrong with that and it isn’t something that should put you off of moving more. Instead, make any adaptions you need – want to do a workout but need a chair to sit? Can’t complete a whole season at one time? It’s all okay and you’re doing great. Make whatever changes you need & go from there.
Buy Items That Make You Feel Comfortable
We all need to be comfortable when playing sport or exercising so make sure you look at items that make you feel comfortable – I love New Balance trainers for wearing when I am going on a long walk, for example, it might be that you want to purchase the best pickleball shoes for your sport playing activities. Whatever it is that you need that is going to keep you comfortable when playing sports or working out, then invest in them.
Go At Your Own Pace
Whether you’re taking part in a class, joining a sports team or simply trying to walk around the block more often, don’t be put off by people telling you to go to further or work harder. We all go at our own pace and if something takes you a little longer, or you can’t quite do as much as someone else that is okay. You and your body are perfect as you are, so go at your pace, be comfortable and do activities that you love. The whole experience should be enjoyable rather than a chore.
The important thing is that you are moving more because you want to – which means moving in the way you want and a way your body likes. Don’t worry if you feel as though your abilities are less than others – there are plenty of sports, courses and workouts that can be enjoyed by anyone. So pick the sport you love and go from there; and if you need to take a break for a while that is okay too – whatever makes you happy and whatever makes things work for you.
