They say that moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do, and I have to agree! I moved house to Hampshire 2 years ago and I remember saying to my boyfriend that not everything would fit in the van and we would have to two trips (I was moving 2 hours away) but he managed to Tetris style everything into the back of the van – I still have no idea how he did it! Anyway, if you have followed me a while you’ll know I have lived a few places over the years, so I wanted to share some tips on getting organised when moving house.
Look At All of Your Options
I know in an ideal world we would pack all of our stuff into a van and move to our new house to pack, but in my experience, that doesn’t often happen. Thinking outside the box is definitely something I would recommend when moving house – like the time I actually posted my belongings as parcels from London to Morecambe because it worked out about £300 cheaper than getting a van to drive my stuff. I remember being let down on the day I was moving house in Birmingham, all my stuff on the drive and the delivery people cancelled – that was a fun day! My recommendation would be to cater for all eventualities – for example, look at something such as Magenta Self Storage so that you can use them if things don’t go to plan and need somewhere to store your stuff.
Get Organised
Being organised definitely helps with moving home – make a list of what you need to do and get things ticked off, which is actually one of my favourite things to do. There are different guides you can look up online but packing your stuff, sorting out utilities at both houses and keeping in touch with all the parties that are involved in making your move happen are highly recommended. Make sure you look at local companies that can help with moving your goods – these can get booked up in advance so doing your research on this early is a must. Looking online for things like a Fort Worth Moving Company, or indeed a company that is local to you is a great place to start, read up on what they can offer and how they can help you get your belongings from A to B as efficiently as possible.

Declutter
One time when I was moving home my dad said to me something along the lines of “everything you choose to keep you’re paying to move to your next house” and that really made me think about what I wanted to keep. Having a de-clutter is a good idea, especially if you get motivated and list things for sale on places like Facebook Marketplace, so you can earn yourself some extra money too. When you’re packing, if something hasn’t been used for years or is a bit broken, do you really want to be paying to move that to your next place? The answer is probably not. I know that getting rid of sentimental things is tough but sometimes we can’t keep everything so we have to make a decision. Of course, if anything is really special – keep it, I’m not a monster!
If you have any tips for getting organised when moving house I would love it if you shared them below
