I want recently invited to look at a ‘Grandparents of the Future’ campaign by Chums and I have to say, it makes an interesting read! Thinking about grandparents always makes me think of my own, the memories I have of them and what they were like when they were old. The campaign by Chums takes a futuristic look at what grandparents could be like in the future and what could be in store for future generations.
As someone massively covered in tattoos (no pun intended), people have often commented on what I will think of them when I’m older, or if they will affect me as an old person. I suppose when I look back on being a teenager I didn’t see many 80-year-olds with a full-sleeve tattoo, but actually, with tattoos now much more widely accepted, that could be something the future generation will see more of. I don’t know about you, but when I was a teenager someone who was 40 seemed SO OLD! Now I’m nearing 40, I don’t feel anywhere near as old as I thought people of that age were – but does that mean that teenagers now see me as the old one?
Old people of the Future
Some of the things the Grandparent of the Future campaign discuss’ are whether grandparents of the future will have different fashion tastes and/or be more likely to have piercings. Undoubtedly we’re living in times where fashion is much less gender-specific and much more towards expressing ourselves, but then some would argue that 1980s fashion did that sort of style pretty well too!
They predict our bodies will go through some changes to technology – and perhaps in the future, we’ll even see things like smart glasses or chips implanted into the brain becoming the norm. The way we stand could change according to their campaign, with us being much more hunched over thanks to the tendency to stare at our phones more throughout the day. In good news, they say that women are likely to be much more empowered and if you ask me, that can only be a good thing!
Of course, none of us really know what the future holds and how technology and future trends could shape future generations of grandparents, but it is fun to look at. What do you think the future looks like for older people and future generations?
