A Visit to Southsea Model Village – What to Wear on a Spring Day Out

March 11, 2024 by Debz Louise 1 Comment

A Visit to Southsea Model Village – Angus and I visited Southsea Model Village on one of our first dates when I visited him from Birmingham – and we decided recently that we would head back for another visit. The weather was on our side a few weeks ago so we headed back there for a day out – and what fun we had.

A Visit to Southsea Model Village

Things are a little different since we first visited in 2018 and one of the first things I checked was whether Southsea Model Village was dog-friendly and I am thrilled to say it is. This is always a bonus for me because I am one of those people who love taking Derek with me wherever possible – sorry, not sorry.

A Visit to Southsea Model Village

Parking near to Southsea Model Village is usually pretty easy as there is a car park right next door. As it was, the weekend we visited it was super busy and the car park was already packed. But, it was the the first sunny weekend of the year so I am not surprised. Thankfully on a Sunday, there is an abundance of parking nearby, so a short walk down the promenade later and we were at the model village.

The village itself costs £6 per adult go walk around and then give you a cute quiz that you can do while you’re there – which gets you looking for different answers throughout the walkaround, which we found really fun to do. Accessiblity wise most of it is flat and paved so I found it quite a nice walk down – there are some steps up to the view of the seafront which some might prefer to avoid.

It’s not a well-known fact that I love a model village and Southsea is no exception. It’s quite a small village to walk around so doesn’t take ages to do, but for the price makes for a lovely hour or so. There is a rose garden next door to the village that also makes a lovely walk around – we want to go back when the flowers are more in bloom.

What to Wear on a Spring Day Out

If I’m going on a day out like this I want to be comfortable – especially when you factor in things like car parking being unpredictable and maybe needing to walk further than you first planned. Obviously, a dress and leggings are going to be my go-to look, but a pair of comfortable trainers, a jacket and a bag are also must-haves for a day out like this.

One thing I have found when shopping for an outfit for a day out like this is that places like Very are a good shout. Their plus-size offerings have really increased over the last few years – and because I can get things like my bag (Accessorize) and trainers (Adidas) from there at the same time it makes for a great online shopping experience. I love that they stock all of my favourite brands including Yours Clothing (my dress and leggings), their own Very Curve brand (great for plus size tops) and even things like plus size coats from Boohoo.

Everything I ordered in my usual size and it all fitted perfectly. The straps on the bag were really adjustable which meant I felt comfortable wearing the backpack all day, which isn’t always the case when you’re plus size. I love that the dress is elasticated under the bust and the tie detailing at the top, makes it just a pretty dress to wear as well as being easy to throw on and know you’re going to feel great all day. I loved the coat because it didn’t feel too long and bulky, which can be a risk with plus size coats – it was easy to take off and carry around when the day got too warm!

Being comfortable on a day out is a must – we did loads of walking that day and then out for pub lunch at a nearby pub on the way home so being comfortable for the whole day was essential. That said, Southsea Model Village really does make for a lovely day out, I mean – look at this view!

Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
