A Family Guide to Caravan Holidays

July 4, 2024 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

Guide to Caravan Holidays – Caravan holidays are coming back into fashion – ever since the huge Vanlife trend blew up on TikTok, more families than ever before have been hitting the open road. A cheaper alternative to a holiday let or cottage, caravans are the perfect holiday for families with smaller children – or couples looking for a quick escape.

Family Guide to Caravan Holidays

Whilst on a caravan adventure, it’s important that you feel at home. Whether you’re travelling around the country on a touring caravan or setting up camp at a sleepy campsite – it is important to remember to be comfortable on your travels.

In this blog, I’m going to be giving my top tips on how to have an enjoyable family caravan getaway!

A Family Guide to Caravan Holidays

Tip #1: Wrap up warm

In the UK, our summers can be a bit chaotic. We can never predict whether it’s going to be a blistering heat, or tipping it down with rain. I recommend bringing lots of layers and blankets to make sure you’re warm overnight.

Being dry and warm can make a big difference out on the road!

Tip 2: Make sure your caravan is ready for a big trip

Ensure you check your caravan is well maintained before your adventure. Check everything from your caravan window seals to the tyres you’ll be using – you wouldn’t want an avoidable disaster to happen miles from home.

Tip #3: Bring supplies

Whilst the UK is rich in beautiful restaurants and food – eating out all the time can be expensive. I recommend bringing some basics – such as coffee, tea, cereals and rice with you, and topping up on meats, cheeses and other perishables on the road. Make sure you bring snacks for the journey – especially if you have little ones!

Tip #4: Come prepared

Wellies, sandals, swimming costumes, raincoats, and trainers are important to have onboard. Make sure you pack weather-appropriate clothing and check the forecast in advance. If you are partaking on a long hike or plan ongoing paddle-boarding, then make sure you bring the appropriate equipment. Leaving it at home can be costly.

Tip #5: take lots of pictures

Family holidays are precious, so make sure you take lots of pictures to treasure the memories. You could even create a bespoke travel journal to document your adventures, especially if you plan on being on the road for a while.

You don’t even need a big camera – taking pictures on your phone is a handy way to keep all of your memories together.

Tip #6: bring a pack of cards

A deck of cards is a brilliant way to spend an evening, a long travel day or rainy afternoon. With endless options of games to play – the whole family will enjoy some quality, unplugged time together.

Caravan holidays are super exciting, and ensuring you are prepared is essential for having a relaxing break.
