Things No One Tells You About Moving House – Everyone talks about the fantastic adventure of moving house and the fact that you’re going to start an exciting new chapter, which is absolutely true – however, if you don’t go about it in the right way then the whole process can be a nightmare – here are a handful of things no one tells you about moving house:
Things No One Tells You About Moving House
Unpacking Takes Longer Than You Anticipate
When packing up to move home, we often talk about de-cluttering and the romanticised view of unpacking our stuff at the other end and having a good sort out as we do. However, unpacking at the other end will always take longer than you think. In fact, you’ll probably put a box of stuff in a corner somewhere to ‘sort out later’ which will be there in weeks to come. The best thing you can do is make sure you pack a box of day one supplies so that even if you haven’t started unpacking yet you’ll be able to make a cup of tea and unpack some biscuits to dunk in it!
Moving Day Will Be Long and Boring
Estate agents and solicitors aren’t known for their speed, so if you’re buying a house expect some waiting around on completion day. If you’re involved in a chain of a few houses then it can be hard to work out exactly where the delay it, but it’s best to plan moving day with the idea in mind that you will be waiting around – you might even have moved out of your old house and be in limbo waiting to move into your new one – anything can happen!

You Can’t Do It All On Your Own
It is easy to assume that moving house simply means throwing some stuff in boxes, driving it to your new house and unpacking – but it really isn’t that easy. You’ll find that when you come to load up the car/van you’ll have way more stuff than you think – you’ll be left wondering how to get it all in! And then, you’ll get to the new house and something will have broken or gotten lost;l it’s a nightmare. Honestly, the best thing to do is hire some professional removers – not only will they do all the heavy lifting and shifting but they’ll have the tools and equipment to make sure that all of your stuff reaches your new house in one piece. Remember, they do this all day long and as such, they’re going to be in a great position to help your home move go smoothly!
You Will be Knackered
From chasing solicitors & ringing around to finding out why your broadband isn’t working to unpacking stuff and wondering why you can’t find everything – you will be constantly on the go for a few days surrounding your home move. There is no denying it – YOU WILL BE KNACKERED! Get some comfortable shoes on, some comfortable clothes and plenty of easy things to cook for dinner, because for a few days your every thought and movement is going to be around moving house.
That said, people are right and moving to a new house is the start of an exciting new adventure so don’t be put off of by the fact that it can be hard work. Instead, get in people to help, get organised and relish the chaos because it will all be worth it in the end!
