Looking After Your Eyes

November 7, 2017 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

As a blogger and social media enthusiast, I spend a lot of
time sat behind a computer screen. When you couple that with the fact that I
work a desk job sat at a computer, it stands to reason that doing something to
make sure this is all done in the right way should be done.

Using Computers

When it comes to sitting at a desk and using a computer,
lots of us are told about making sure we have the desk set up correctly. We
know that a supportive chair is important and that we should make sure that we
sit correctly so as not to damage our posture. In the work place we’re often
given assessments to ensure that we have our desk in the right way. Screens need
to be in the right position and keyboard/mouse set up needs to be straight so
that your body is not twisted in a strange way.

Sometimes sitting in the way that is best for us can take
some getting used to as we are so used to sitting in a way that feels most comfortable. However, once you follow any guidelines set to you and you are more
used to sitting that way you’ll actually find it much more comfortable – especially
long term!

Looking After Your Eyes

Of course, one of the dangers of sitting at a computer all
day is strain on your eyes. If you’re someone that ends the day with a headache
then this is something that you need to make sure you address. Getting an eye
test sooner rather than later is something that I would really recommend.
Headaches can be really unbearable and you don’t want them to start affecting
your work if they start to happen more frequently.

One thing to also be aware of is the amount of un-natural
light that our devices omit. The light from these devices isn’t the same as
sunshine and so affects our eyes and brain in a much different way.

Known as blue-light this light can affect our eyesight in
many different ways, as well as being a factor in keeping us awake late. We all
know that we would benefit from switching screens off a while before we sleep
and this is because blue-light keeps our eyes and brain active.

One thing that is recommended is to invest in a blue lightfilter for your laptop or other device. As
the name suggests this helps to
filter out blue light and protect your eyes.

Other Hints and Tips

There are different ways that we can protect our health when
it comes to using computers and electronic devices. For starters having a break
away from the screen is highly recommended. Not only does this give your eyes a
break from staring at the screen but if you get up and have a walk around the
office you’ll do your body the world of good too! Have you ever felt really
stiff standing up after being sat for so long? A break way from your device and
a quick walk around will prevent this!
