No one wants to feel uncomfortable in their own home and if you have any issue with mobility this can easily be the case. However, I am a firm believer in your home being your sanctuary, so I wanted to write today about making life easier at home.
There are lots of adaptions you can make at home to make life a little easier – some of them will be big changes and some of them will be smaller. Only you can decide what is right for you and your home.
If you follow me on social media you’ll have noticed last week that I had some issues with Argos and some garden furniture delivery – most people would have sent back the table and chairs and gotten a refund. However, finding plus size suitable garden chairs at an affordable price is quite a battle and as such, I didn’t want to give them up so easily. It sounds such a small thing but I wanted to sit in the garden in comfort – it’s all about making life easier at home!
Getting Around at Home Easily
Say for example you find the stairs a struggle, why not look at the options to get a disabled lift installed at home? It might seem like a real luxury purchase, but is being able to upstairs to bed without a struggle really something that could be considered a luxury? I didn’t even realise that there were so many options for having a lift installed in your home, but there are and I think that is brilliant. I’m lucky that I haven’t ever had to consider the options for lifts at home, but how nice to know there are choices.
A lift is a great way of making your home more accessible. If you do have issues with getting around your home you may also want to consider purchasing a personal alarm package as having a trip or fall in the home can sometimes be life-threatening. Having something to call for help when you may not be able to could save your life.
There are other really small ways to make life easier at home – for example, my boyfriend recently installed a new front step because I’m really short and the step that was there was too deep for me and I stumbled all the time. We wanted some grass in the back garden and went for fake grass; because we knew it took much less upkeep and would make life easy.
