The despondency you’re feeling is real, but it can also be redirected. All of the above reasons are also perfect reasons to get organising a once-in-a-lifetime girls’ trip abroad! A good holiday is just what the doctor ordered, and a perfect opportunity to reaffirm the bond your friend group has.
Crete is nothing short of a genius choice for such a holiday too, combining fab weather with amazing culture and even better nightlife. But what should your girls’ holiday look like?
Travel
Travel is, of course, the first hurdle you need to clear in order to guarantee your place on Crete’s golden sands. A direct flight to either Heraklion or Chania will only take around 4 hours; if you set off from the UK early, you could add practically a full day to your itinerary without increasing your costs by much!
You will naturally have to budget for getting around on-island, as well as getting to and from it. If you’ve got a strong contingent from your group coming, it might be safer and wiser to hire a car, and designate driving between a few of you. This way, you can ensure safe travel to the hotel, and to some of the more remote landmarks you might like to visit.
Accommodation
Another core cost can be found in the shape of your room and board. This is often the biggest sticking point when it comes to group holiday planning, so don’t be afraid to spend a little extra time hashing it all out together!
An elegant solution, though, can be to book out a villa for the bunch of you to share. You each get private rooms, excellent amenities and the opportunity to pre-drink for cheap around the comfort of a kitchen island.
Daytime
With the trifles of travel and board sorted, you can get to focusing on the meat of your girls’ holiday – and crafting the perfect adventure for yourself and your friends. Crete is a pre-eminently cultural cornerstone of Greece, and home to a wide variety of unmissable activities, edifices and experiences. There’s so much to do here, in fact, that you might struggle to squeeze everything into one holiday!
For one, there’s the coastline – all 650 miles of it, containing incredible sandy beaches and vibrant port cities alike. If you’re an outdoorsy bunch, you might consider the long and rewarding trek to Agiofarago Beach; for the urban, cultured groups, there are little more enticing places to explore than the port city of Ierapetra.
Nightlife
For many, the daytime possibilities of a Crete trip are more than enough to justify travelling there – but this is a girls’ holiday! There’s no need for the fun to stop as the sun goes down; indeed, for many more, it is the nightlife that draws them to the wonders of Crete.
Crete is extremely well known for its vibrant nightclub scene, but drinks and dancing don’t define the island. There is also a thrilling culinary scene to be explored, which can be a great amuse-bouche for a series of phenomenal nights out on the town. Given the majesty of Crete’s coast, it should come as no surprise that there’s a great deal to be found going on along its shores. Don’t be afraid to throw your itineraries to the wind!
