We’ve been trying to get out and about and say yes to doing more stuff since we moved home last year – and as well as watching Six in Sheffield, we recently headed to Hull New Theatre to watch Waitress. So, here’s my plus-size review of Hull New Theatre.

I have loved the story of Jenna and the Waitress soundtrack for such a long time, so when it came to Hull, we decided to take the plunge and go and see it. Much like when we watched Six in Sheffield, we went for the cheap seats. This isn’t a choice for everyone, but we prefer to go for lower-cost seats so that we can afford to go to more shows.
Parking for Hull New Theatre is nice and easy in the streets nearby – and if you park after 6pm it is free. We opted to park a little earlier and walk somewhere for dinner so we could park before it got too busy, but parking still didn’t work out too expensive.
The parking was super close by, and I noticed disabled parking spots right outside of the venue too. We queued for a couple of minutes to get in, but it wasn’t very busy, and the queue moved quickly.
Plus-Size Review of Hull New Theatre – How’s the Seating?
If you’re plus-size and considering Hull New Theatre, then you’re probably wondering what the seating is like. I can’t speak for the whole theatre, but towards the back where we sat I found the seats comfortable enough. We were sat next to the production booth
(I would usually choose next to an aisle if that is possible) and it was slightly cramped, but manageable. The production we saw was very busy, potentially sold out, as I didn’t see any empty seats. Leg room wasn’t the best, but I haven’t yet been to a theatre that has an abundance of leg room.
The night we visited the theatre, it was very warm. We did struggle a bit with the heat, but we went for a walk around the block in the interval to cool down and that definitely helped. I have read reviews since, and some people report that it is cold on occasion so it could just be that we were unlucky on the night we went.
The floor itself is slightly raked, but I do feel I have been in theatres where the stage is higher and the view at the back was better thanks to this, but it was perfectly acceptable, especially given how much we paid for our tickets.
The show itself was far from disappointing – In fact, it was pretty incredible. It had a couple of subtle differences to the West End run, but nothing that took anything away from the enjoyment of the show.
And when the show was finished, we could simply leave and be back in the car in less than 5 minutes, which is a win!

Are The Seats at Hull New Theatre Plus Size Friendly?
I would say yes to some extent. I am a size 24/26 and found them fine, but they do have fixed armrests, which could make them tricky for anyone bigger.
