Although there is some argument that anyone walking alone is in danger, there definitely is more risk to women. although no one wants to think about the possibility of being attacked it is something that many women consider without even thinking – walking the long way home, making sure friends know where they are going etc. So, why are women using personal safety alarms in the UK?
To Give Us Some Freedom
The truth is that we should be able to go out at any time of day that we want and wherever we please and feel safe, but that just doesn’t happen. In order to claim back some personal freedom, many women have taken to carrying personal safety alarms on their person. These are sometimes visible which is a great deterrent for anyone that might be considering acting dubiously. By carrying a personal safety alarm while out and about women generally feel much more confident in going places alone, especially late at night.
For Peace of Mind
If you have a daughter, sister, mother or another female relative then you might decide to buy them an alarm that they can carry with them. We can’t always be there when people have to walk home after work or choose to walk the dog around the block, but ensuring that they have a personal alarm that they can take with them can give you peace of mind that they are safe while out and about.
Meeting Strangers Is Now The Norm
Internet dating and making friends online is now much more of a norm – in fact, I met my boyfriend on an online dating website so I know how it all works. When I met my boyfriend, I did not let him drop me home, I told my friend where I was meeting him (somewhere public) and I text her his number plate before I got in his car. We’ve been together for over 3 years now so it might seem ludicrous that I would take these steps, but at the time he was a stranger. With more people opting to meet up with people they have met online personal safety alarms are something that people are opting to buy – just to have that extra level of safety when they choose to meet someone new.
If you have a personal safety alarm and any recommendations on how to use it or which to buy then feel free to share below
