Choosing a New Signature Scent That Is Cruelty-free – Now that a new year is upon us, you may be thinking it would be nice to get a new fragrance to represent 2022. Many people set new year’s resolutions to be more eco-friendly or to switch over to cruelty-free beauty products. You can cut two carrots with one knife and switch over your fragrances, beauty care and makeup to the many brands now available that take steps to lower their harm to the planet.

Choosing a New Signature Scent That Is Cruelty-free

What Does Cruelty-free Mean?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that most common brands of beauty products contain animal-derived ingredients and are tested on animals. The term cruelty-free was created by Cruelty-Free International, which started as a British Union in Bristol in 1898. Frances Power Cobbe led the way by shedding light on animal testing and vivisection. The organisation now helps fund animal-free research and created the Leaping Bunny programme to award companies and products that don’t use animal ingredients or test on animals.

Where Do I Find Cruelty-free Brands?

Thankfully you have great options both online and on High Street. Many companies now offer similar products you are used to for a fraction of the cost that do less harm to the planet and don’t contain animal-derived ingredients. It’s a win/win. So if one of your goals this year was to be more environmentally friendly it’s affordable to do so!

You can easily spot products that meet the Leaping Bunny requirements with the bunny logo on the box or see the list on their website. If you are looking for UK brands specifically you can find a great list at Cruelty-free Kitten and here. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new brands this year.

Choosing a Cruelty-free Perfume For 2022

Many people might not know that perfume is not always cruelty-free – I mean it’s just liquid with some scents in it, right? Wrong. Many of the most well-known perfumes contain animal ingredients and they are tested on animals. It’s frightening to think about if you are an animal lover.

Here are some great cruelty-free brands that have fragrances and aftershaves you can trust and feel good about buying. Keep in mind that if a brand is cruelty-free that it doesn’t necessarily mean its products are also vegan. So be sure to look at the label if that is also important to you.

Scent That Is Cruelty-free

Dolma Vegan Fragrances

One of the oldest 100% vegan and cruelty-free makers of perfumes and aftershaves (since 1982!), Dolma is our top choice for a fragrance company committed to the planet. All their products do not contain parabens, palm oil or phthalates. The fragrance line covers all the usual fragrance notes you would find in designer brands, with its own unique twist. If you like floral, citrus, spicy or woody fragrances you’ll find something you love at Dolma. And you can feel good about supporting a small independent UK brand.

Clean Beauty Collective

Clean has been formulating sustainable fragrances with responsibly sourced ingredients since 2003. Its products are vegan and cruelty-free. With scents that cover all the olfactory categories, you’re sure to find a Clean fragrance you’ll love. Simply Clean is one of the more popular scents inspired by the crisp morning air featuring top notes of bergamot, cardamom and lavender.

Stella McCartney

Everything that Stella McCartney produces for her label is cruelty-free, so her fragrance line fits the bill. None of her perfumes contains any ingredient that is tested on animals, and she’s a big advocate for animal rights. The brand calls itself “vegetarian” so double-check the ingredients if you are looking for 100% vegan products. Many SM perfumes are discontinued but available on various websites with a quick Google.

I totally support your desire to tread lightly on the planet this year so I hope this article has helped you see that it’s not hard to transition your fragrances to cruelty-free options. What are some of your favourite cruelty-free brands? Share with me in the comments.
