We may have all cringed when our parents said it, but “it wasn’t like that in my day”. When I was younger I lived on an estate and once I was old enough, was outside playing all day every day. We made camps, we rode our bikes and generally came back home when we could hear our mum yelling that dinner was ready. Unfortunately, things aren’t quite the same these days which means that children don’t have quite as much freedom; but that doesn’t mean that shouldn’t be outside – so here are 3 benefits to playing outside in your own garden
Exercise
We all know the benefits of exercise and moving our bodies – but dragging kids to the gym probably isn’t recommended. By allowing them the time and space to run around their own garden they’re having so much fun that they’re not even thinking about the health benefits of moving their bodies so much.
It doesn’t have to be put to your kids as exercise – for example a game of football or a ride out on a childrens scooter is a great way to get your kids body moving!
Children tend to sleep better when they have burned off some energy during the day too; so it’s a win-win.
Safety
Playing in your own garden means that you can keep an eye on them and you have peace of mind that they are going to be safe. Of course, they can invite friends over and have lots of fun but they don’t need to be wandering away from the house to make this happen. Instead, they’re close by so you know exactly where they are and you don’t have to worry about how much bother they are getting in to.
Imagination
