The Importance of Children Playing Outside – The weather is cold and if you’re anything like me, you just want to hibernate at home where it is warm and cosy. When did that happen? I can’t remember wanting to stay inside as a child – the weather was just something that was there, it didn’t stop me and my sense of adventure! These days’ children often have less opportunity to play outside, but it is certainly something that we should be encouraging! Here’s a look at the importance of children playing outside.
The Importance of Children Playing Outside
Great for Their Bodies
We all know that moving our bodies has plenty of benefits, so encouraging children outside for a run around with friends or to kick a football can only be a good thing. If you have space then looking at places like Fatmoose that offer plenty of fun outdoor play equipment for your garden is recommended. They offer things like a high-quality climbing frame or playhouses to help keep children entertained when playing outside. The great thing about Fatmoose is that their items are made from solid, durable wood so you know you’re getting a quality product.

Great for Mental Health
We have all had times when we’re sick or life is busy and we don’t get out and about as much as we would like – after a few days we start to feel a bit fed up and miss the feeling of fresh air; children are no different. Playing outside gives them a chance to burn off steam so they sleep better and breathe in some fresh air which makes us all feel better.
Great for Building Relationships
Being young is an important time for learning to navigate relationships, build friendships and generally learn about people. Playing outside gives children the chance to open up their imagination and enjoy an adventure with new friends. Whilst they only see this as a chance to have plenty of fun, it teaches them some important life lessons along the way too; which can only be a good thing!
As a parent or caregiver, one of the responsibilities people have is to teach children new skills, not just academically. Playing outside is great for a child’s health but it also teaches them about the weather, meeting new people, playing safely and much more – which is why if you do have space outdoors then there is plenty to be said for turning this into somewhere that your children can play happily and safely.
