Fun Workout Activities  – When you have children, your life changes completely. Gone are the lazy weekends and spontaneous evenings out. In their place are baby sensory classes and copious amounts of caffeine.

Between the back-to-back episodes of Bluey and trips to the park, it can be easy to lose track of you are. But it’s important that you try to carve out some time for yourself. One way to feel energised is to focus on your fitness.

Fun Workout Activities for Mums

If it’s been a while since your last workout or you simply want to move your body, here are some activities you could try to ease you back into an exercise routine.
Before you begin

Before you try any exercise, make sure you speak to your doctor first, especially if you’re still in the first two months postpartum. How quickly you can return to your pervious fitness activities will depend on your own personal circumstances.

Dance

A dance workout can be a brilliant way to boost serotonin levels and enhance your cardiovascular health. Look out for dance classes in your area. Whether you plan to go back to Zumba or you’ve always wanted to try your hand at tap, take a look at what’s on offer.

As well as keeping you fit, this could be the perfect opportunity to socialise with others. You could find other parents who want to get out of the house for an hour and grab a coffee with them after class.

Alternatively, move the furniture out of the way and try dance workouts at home. There are tutorials online, as well as virtual classes, so there are plenty of opportunities to pick up a new style of dance in your living room!

Outdoor workouts

Getting outside into a green space is good for your fitness levels, but it can also be good for your mental health. According to Mind, the mental health charity, spending time in nature is good for stress levels and can improve your mood.

If you’ve recently had your baby, you could begin with a gentle walk in the park and build up from there. You might want to try jogging or even grabbing the bike and heading to your local cycling trails. There may also be some outdoor classes that you can take your little ones to – look out for parent and baby sessions in our area.

Mum and baby yoga

For a class that focuses on building your bond with your baby, try yoga. These sessions give you the chance to gradually build up your core strength again while also spending some quality time away from everything with your baby.

An instructor will guide you through different poses and breathing exercises for you and your little one, creating a beneficial experience for you both.
