Dating – Everyone Can Do It – I’ve been on a bit of a retro hit the last couple of days and I’m currently listening to This Ain’t a Love Song by Scouting for Girls on Spotify – they did some pretty cracking songs, didn’t they? Anyway, I digress.
Dating – Everyone Can Do It
I might be ever the optimist but I fully have all my hopes pinned on 2021 being very different to this year. Does everyone remember sweaty nightclubs and shots of Jaeger in Wetherspoons?
Okay, it’s been a while since I lived that life due to being old and boring, but you know what I mean? I want to go to B&M without feeling like I’m breaking the rules, is that too much to ask?With a return to the world of normal, I’m hoping that dating can make a comeback – not for me -I’m sickeningly loved up, but for anyone who might want to meet someone new.
One of the things with dating is finding someone that can appreciate your needs & help cater to them. Whether that is meeting someone on paraplegic dating sites because you’re a wheelchair user or just someone who can take their time with you because you get anxious. We all have different needs and for me, it was always important to have someone who appreciates those.
As someone who is plus size, this sometimes comes with its own difficulties. I’m not suggesting that they’re the same as being disabled and the constant access problems you must face, but
I can have some empathy for needing space, wanting to check venues beforehand to see what they’re like and generally just making sure you’re okay.
Dating in 2021
As much as I romanticise the world going back to normal next year, I think it will be a while before everything is back as it once was. That said, if you are disabled (or not!) and want to get out there and meet new people, why not sign up to a disabled dating app? I’m of course not suggesting that disabled people can only date each other, but it can be a good place to start. I know that getting started with online dating can be nerve-wracking so I feel that easing yourself into it with a dating site like this can be a good start.
Meeting New People
I met my partner on Plenty of Fish, but I definitely dabbled in plus size dating sites before this, because it felt safe. That said, on our first date my partner walked all the way back up a massive hill to the car to get me a drink just so I didn’t have to – and that is exactly what I mean about taking people’s needs into consideration.
When you have a disability, you’re plus size, you suffer from anxiety or anything that can dent your confidence and it can be hard to push yourself out there to meet new people especially in
a romantic sense. But you are worthy of love and I’m deeming 2021 as the year that anything goes, so get yourself out there into the dating world and enjoy
every moment!
Remember, not all disabilities are visible. Not all wheelchair users use them full-time.
Everyone is different and we’re all worthy.
