How to Keep Your Finances Under Control

October 3, 2022 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

Whether you have children, you’re a dog mum like me or you have a slightly different household set-up, one thing that is going to be on your find is how to keep your finances under control as winter hits us. We’re surrounded by talk of rising costs and a tricky winter so it’s understandable to be worried about how you’re going to make it all work – here are some tips that I hope will help.

Watch Your Spending

It stands to reason that watching what you spend is going to become a necessity for most. Spending money is something that most of us find quite easy – a coffee with friends here, grabbing lunch at work there & the odd meal out all add up. Whilst no one is suggesting that you miss out on all of these, looking at where you can make easy savings is a must. For example, I used to be really bad at making lunch to take to work, but now I work from home that is much easier & has saved me loads of money on buying a Tesco meal deal for lunch every day – because we all know that when you pop into a supermarket for lunch, you’re not coming out with just lunch.

Saving Where You Can

Making savings where you can is a really good idea too – make use of cashback websites, check apps for vouchers and even look out for discounts in-store. The biggest thing to remember is that no matter how big the ‘saving’ is if you weren’t going to buy it already then it wasn’t really a saving at all! Setting yourself a monthly budget can help to bring all of this together and work out what you can spend and where you can make the biggest savings. Go through your bank account and see what you’re paying subscriptions for that you don’t use anymore for example.

Obtaining Credit

Whilst borrowing money isn’t always the right option for keeping your finances under control it is sometimes the only option you have. If you do need to borrow money in order to give yourself a bit of financial breathing space then it is essential that you do this sensibly. For example, look at credit card alternatives that are upfront and transparent about their fees, so you have no nasty surprises when it comes to paying back the amount you have borrowed. You might want to consider an overdraft with your bank or obtaining a credit line with a brand such as Polar Credit. Polar Credit is a direct lender that lends people any amount that they need. You can apply for a credit line which tells you how much you can borrow and then simply select how much money you need, you only pay interest on the actual amount you borrow. The fees are easy to see on their website, so you’re never going to be in for a shock if you do borrow from them.

If you have any tips for how to keep your finances under control I would love you to share them
