I remember Halloween as a kid; which generally involved some 50p plastic vampire teeth and a bin bag for a costume – and then wandering around the estate trick or treating the neighbours – you got to know which ones would be generous and which ones wouldn’t; it was always great fun! As a grown-up it’s slightly more frowned upon to celebrate Haloween in that way – but I still like to have a nod to all things spooky!
We don’t really have any Halloween traditions as such, but one thing I like to do each year if I can is create a spooky Halloween dinner and I have been searching the internet for inspiration. There are some really clever people out there who create some amazing dishes. I’m not sure that my cooking is quite up to their presentation skills but I have every intention of giving it a try this weekend!
As some of you probably know, I take part in international snack swaps and as part of a box a couple of weeks ago I was sent some black wild rice from Minnesota – so I think I’ll be getting that out this year and creating something spooky; because black rice fits right in! I also really like this black spaghetti dish from Savoring Every Bite; which I think looks suitable for Halloween!

I have recently been trying out some Ciao Gusto products and I think this would be the perfect opportunity to use the jar of Ponti Sundried Tomatoes that we picked up the other day. We’re big fans of Italian and especially pasta dishes in this house, so it seemed like the ideal ingredient to pick up that we know we would make use of. They have various offers on their products at different times too – like these sundried tomatoes which have 20% off! They would have been the ones we ordered, but we were sent the zero oil ones and they look just as good!

So – I think we’ll be going for a spooky spaghetti – need to hunt for some black spaghetti before the big day and something with black wide rice 0 any suggestions? Of course, Haloween isn’t complete without some spooky treats so we’ll be having plenty of those too!
Do you have any Halloween traditions? I’d love to hear about them!
