We’re probably all a little guilty of throwing away products we have bought and never used or having items in our home that we will never use. We have tried to up our recycling game in our household, with 2 bins in the kitchen now so we can separate out our waste easily. As someone who shops from Amazon a little too often, recycling the cardboard that the packages come in is pretty much essential. If you’re looking to be more eco friendly at home here’s some tips that might help.
Shop Sensibly
Shopping in a sensible way is one of the best ways to ensure that your shopping doesn’t have a detrimental effect on the environment. For example, you could look to shop locally rather than from mass-produced supermarkets. However, if you do want to shop at a supermarket then looking for items that are plastic-free is possible, in fact, you may find that many supermarkets actively promote their plastic ree items so they’re even easier to find.
Get Recycling
Recycling items as much as possible is definitely recommended. This can be part of your general rubbish, where you make sure items are separated as we do. However, there are definite ways to go the extra mile when it comes to recycling. For example, taking old clothes to a clothes bank or even handing them down to other people so that they can make use of them is a good idea – after all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The same could be said for household items; just because you aren’t using that toastie maker or slush puppie machine, that doesn’t mean someone else will be able to make use of them; give them away or even create some extra household funds by selling them on a local Facebook group.
Heating Your Home
The cost of heating our homes is likely to be top of the list for many people; with the increase in gas costs well documented everywhere. However, did you know that an estimated 22% of carbon emissions in the UK are produced by our homes? By ensuring that your home is as energy efficient as possible you can help to improve both your bank balance and the environment – so a win, win situation. Consider where you can improve your home insulation or simply how you make your home as energy-efficient as possible. There are loads of ways to do this, so find the methods that work for you and your home and you’ll soon notice the difference.
