There is no denying it, going on holiday is a wonderful thing. Whether you’re taking a trip aboard, going on a staycation or just away overnight it is lovely to relax and have a change of scenery. However, there are some worries about leaving the house empty and unattended. Here are some home security checks you should be doing before you go on holiday.
Doors & Locks
Without a doubt, you should check all the locks in your home in advance of going away – that way you have time to get a locksmith out to make any appropriate changes before you travel. Things like using anti-snap locks and checking that any stiff mechanisms are fixed are recommended. It can be worth having some spare keys cut to give to someone you trust before you go just in case they need to come into the house and check on anything while you are away. Checking window locks at the same time is recommended too!

Home Security
If you don’t already have home security measures in place then before you travel is the perfect time to get these installed. It doesn’t need to be a full-on security set-up to make a difference, even something like a smart doorbell can be a deterrent for anyone looking to come into your property and cause trouble – of course, you get the added peace of mind that you can check in your property remotely too!
You can easily view live footage of your Dallas, TX property (or wherever your property is) when you install efficient home security measures, so you can gain that peace of mind whenever you are away. Security lights are reasonably affordable and help to make it less easy for anyone to access your property without being seen. Something like Alexa can help you with switching on lights remotely, so if you’re away for a few days it can be worth doing this for an evening or two, so it looks less likely your property is empty.
Don’t Forget Outside the House
It is easy to concentrate on your actual house but doesn’t forget things like bike sheds, garden sheds and garages. These need to have secure locks on and be locked before you travel – anything that makes it too easy for someone to access could just be too tempting if someone recognises you are away.
Before you choose a company to help with any lock changes or security setup, you need to make sure that you read reviews and comments from previous customers. This gives you peace of mind that they are going to be reliable and do what they say they will. Home security is something we should take seriously – so it stands to reason you are going to want to work with a company that you feel confident in.
If you have any advice on home security checks we’d love you to share them
