How To Organise Your Wardrobe

January 17, 2023 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

How To Organise Your Wardrobe The idea of actually getting around to organising your wardrobe may not be at the top of everyone’s to-do list, but it is necessary. Once it’s done, you’ll know exactly what you have to wear, and you’ll be able to mix and match pieces with ease. Until you take the plunge and get organised, it’s highly likely you’ll just wear the same pieces over and over, and ignore everything else because finding it or even seeing it is too hard. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you get started. Once you do, you’ll be glad you did.

Organise Your Wardrobe: Declutter By Category

Sorting your clothes by type is a quick and easy way to get rid of clutter. Putting every piece of clothing you own in a big pile on your bed is stressful and inefficient. Instead, sort your clothes into groups like trousers, dresses, blouses, outerwear, accessories, and underwear. Then go through each item in one category before moving on to the next.

This is better because it’s much easier to compare clothes that are similar when they’re all in one place. This makes it easier to get rid of things you have too much of or don’t want. As you go through your things, promise yourself that you will only keep the clothes you love and wear often. If something makes you think twice, put it in a pile to give away.

Organise Your Wardrobe: Set Enough Time Aside

Don’t try to rush what is, after all, a major undertaking in terms of your wardrobe overhaul. You should set up a specific period of time, like a weekend, to accomplish your goal. Even if you’re a super organiser, you should still set aside at least a day. No matter how much you might want to get the job done or how quickly you think you can achieve it, it’s probably going to take you longer than you think, so always overestimate.

Not to forget, it may test your patience to take out every single garment from your wardrobe and then fold it with the sole purpose of putting it back—this time, in an organized way. Your willpower to continue with the task might fade midway, but that doesn’t mean you can leave it half-done. Doing so will only invite more clutter into your space. In such cases, it might be a good idea to look for a helping hand—professionals who specialize in wardrobe organization (found by looking up “Carolina Closets Plus” on the Web). They can ensure everything goes back into place—but in a more efficient and organized way.

Organise Your Wardrobe: Think About Your Hangers

Nothing says “closet disaster” like a mix of wire and fluorescent plastic hangers. Using identical hangers for your garments helps keep your closet looking organised and uncluttered.

Only buy hangers that are suitable for your clothes. Select thick velvet hangers instead of flimsy plastic ones if you have quality heavy suits and men’s trousers to hand up, and don’t use wooden hangers for your silk tops because of the risk of snagging.

Organise Your Wardrobe: Be Careful When You Buy More

When replenishing your wardrobe, spend your money on high-quality, long-lasting pieces. Be deliberate about your approach to new purchases, whether you’re browsing the resale options on auction sites, on the prowl for vintage treasures, or investing in pieces you can foresee yourself wearing for many years to come.

In the event that you buy carefully, you should always be able to recoup at least some of the value of the items you purchase, as there are many popular brands that maintain their value well in the secondhand market. Plus, the longer an item lasts, the fewer times you’ll have to replace it, saving you money in the long run.

How would you organise your wardrobe?
