Interior Design With Storage Optimization: Tips And Ideas

The good news is that we can combine enough storage space at home with a beautiful design. There are ways to ensure enough storage space while maintaining the interior design. Thus, you can check out the following tips on interior design combined with enough storage space. These tips should offer valuable information whether you’re renovating, redecorating, or starting the design from scratch.

Interior Design With Storage Optimization

Storage Optimization – Use Colors For Emphasis

Choosing two colours is the best way to avoid making the interior design overwhelming yet stylish and unique. Some people often choose one color and play with different shades of that color. However, two colours may truly make your design pop. When selecting a colour, choose the ones that make you feel good and calm.

You could incorporate chosen colours into patterns of tiles, decorative cushions, curtains, floor rugs, accessories, etc. You may also use one color as a base, and a second color, a brighter one, to emphasize the design. For example, use a neutral colour for floors and walls, while a brighter one for fitted wardrobes in alcoves. Thus, you emphasize the exterior design of the wardrobe, incorporating it into the design as a stylish statement.

Storage Optimization – Multipurpose Furniture Items

Regardless of the room size, we can make it more spacious using all available space. The obvious solution is to incorporate multipurpose furniture into our homes. Such furniture items include:

  • Poufs or ottomans with storage space.
  • Multipurpose foldable tables.
  • Beds with storage beneath the sleeping space.
  • Mezzanine beds with built-in storage for kids’ rooms.
  • Mezzanine beds with a desk beneath the sleeping space.

These are just a few examples, some of which you could find in furniture stores. However, you may opt for customized solutions and order furniture that fits your rooms. You may always consider foldable beds to free up space and use the bedroom as the living room during the day.

Storage Optimization – Define Rooms By Using Shelves

If you have one room, you could use it as two by dividing it with shelves. First, you get a definition. Second, you get extra storage space. You can order custom shelves that go from the floor to the ceiling or buy ready-made options at furniture stores. You can divide a room into a kitchen and a living room, a living room and a dining room, or a living room and a home office using this method.

Storage Optimization – Dining Table At The Side

Most people prefer placing the dining table at the center of the room since it’s the traditional option. However, the room might not have enough space to move freely. Instead, consider a customized statement dining bench at the side, and place a dining table in front.

That way, you can combine the living room with a dining room. You can paint the wall where the bench is in a different color, making it an eye-catchy element of the room. Thus, you can achieve a unique design that won’t take up all the room’s space.

Storage Optimization – Use Fitted Wardrobes And Storage Spaces

While we never seem to have enough horizontal room, we always have enough vertical space. The problem is we rarely use vertical space, which is a huge waste. Most of us visit a furniture store and buy the first wardrobe that we like. Then we mount it at our homes, which doesn’t fit all our items.

Instead, consider custom-fitted wardrobes. First, they often go from the floor to the ceiling giving enough storage space. Second, such wardrobes perfectly fit available space. Moreover, you can make a wardrobe stand out by using a different colour that matches the room’s overall design. As a result, you get a wardrobe that perfectly fits the room (size-wise), gives enough storage space, and looks like it belongs in that room.

Storage Optimization –  Use Mirrors

Most people see mirrors as practical furniture items to see our reflection. However, designers use mirrors as a clever way to decorate the room, making it seem more spacious and overall interesting and unique. If you have small rooms, corridors, or hallways with walls that seem to try to squizz you, decorate them with mirrors or reflective materials to make the room seem bigger. As an example, place a wardrobe with mirrors in the hallway or corridor to make the room look bigger.

Final Thoughts

When redecorating, always look for different ideas. We have different rooms, so one solution may not be suitable for every situation. However, you can browse for ideas on the Internet and find a solution that may suit your home. You can adjust it, so it fits your home. Luckily, in the 21st century, we can achieve different results even if we don’t have the fortune to pay for home renovation!
