Although many of us have dabbled with working from home in the past, over the last 24 months more and more of us are being given the chance to work full-time hours, or certainly more permanent hours from home. Whether working remotely is for an employer or you have taken a leap and set yourself up as a freelancer, one of the most important things is that you look after yourself.
The Benefits of Working from Home
Working from home does feel different to working in the structured environment of an office, so it might take a little getting used to. That said, the fact that you can take 2 minutes out of your day to put the dinner in the oven or hang out some washing is a massive bonus when it comes to your work/life balance. If you work out your day to day to-do list correctly then lots of the jobs that you have previously been unable to do until you get home from work can be ticked off throughout the workday. That’s without even considering the fact that you no longer have a lengthy commute to worry out! Finish work at 5 pm? Your own time starts at 5:01 – perfect!
Setting Yourself up For Success
If you are going to be working from home long-term, then ensuring that you have a proper setup is essential. Not only does a proper desk mean that you are more likely to have a productive day but it’s important that you sit correctly in terms of looking after yourself and your posture. More and more people are opting to use something like the EW8 Comhar Desk which allows you to adjust the height of the desk to a standing position, meaning that you can do your work whilst stretching your legs and giving your back a rest. (Flexispot who stock this standing desk have recently opened a new Northampton warehouse and as such have a massive Celebration Sale throughout June with plenty of discounts on offer). Investing in a decent desk, somewhere to sit and some décor for your workspace will go a long way to helping with your working day feeling happy and productive.
Looking After Yourself When Working From Home
Setting boundaries when you work from home can be tough, especially if you are working for yourself or setting up a small business. However, if you don’t take some time out for yourself then you simply won’t be as productive as you could be. Take some time out at lunchtime to go for a walk around the block or enjoy your lunch in the sun & when your working day has finished switch off & don’t be tempted to jump on the laptop at strange times just to get things done.
So, invest in a decent desk, set yourself up for success and make sure you take some time out for yourself every day & you’re on the right track.
If you have any tips for how to look after yourself when working from home I’d love you to share them below
