If you know me, you know that winter is the season I dislike the most. I don’t ever feel particularly down during winter but I don’t like the dark evenings and I especially don’t like icy paths when I am out and about. Personally, I am already grateful for lighter evenings and I’m counting down until the warmer weather is here – so here are 5 things to look forward to now Summer is on the way.
Longer Days
I don’t know about you, but as soon as the night starts to draw in I lose all motivation. For me, the fact it is dark outside means it’s time to settle down for the evening and get ready for bed, not ideal when that is happening at 4:30 pm! One of the best things about the fact that summer is on the way is that our days will be much longer. We’re already in February, which means we’re 4 weeks away from March, where the sunset begins to be around 6:45 pm – much better than 4:30 pm I am sure most people will agree!
Seeing Friends
If you’re anything like me then you spend winter hibernating as much as possible. I like a walk in the Autumn and the cool air at that time of year can be nice and refreshing, but once it gets raining and cold – I’m out. The warmer weather means it is much nicer for me to be out and about and as such, I am much more likely to see friends and be sociable. I know that for some people winter can be tough and it is easy to hide away and isolate- I don’t do this, I just socialise from my sofa! If you are someone that feels winter (or any time of the year) is tough then speaking to someone along the lines of a private psychiatry service can help you get the help and support you need.
Washing Drying Much Easier
Isn’t getting the laundry dry in the winter such a pain? If you hang it outside then it will probably rain, but it on clothes airers around the house simply means that it doesn’t dry as well as it could. I much prefer the warm weather because it means I can do a few loads of laundry in one go and I know that they’ll be dry soon. IN fact, if I want something to wear for tomorrow I can even wash it and then hang it out to dry overnight and I know I won’t be putting on damp socks in the morning.
Fresh Air in the House
Although I do like to have the windows open a little in winter, sometimes it’s just too cold. I can’t wait for the first day it is warm enough to have all of the windows and doors open and give the house a good airing. Does everyone love that fresh feeling when your home is clean and full of fresh air? It doesn’t matter what sort of day I am having, that makes everything feel 10 times better.
Ice Cream
Of course, we can’t celebrate the fact summer is on the way without looking forward to some delicious ice cream. Of course, you can eat ice cream all year round, but what is better than eating it outside with the sun beaming on your face?
Although these are quite a frivolous look at things I am looking forward to in summer they are genuinely things that make my life a little better! I’m looking forward to walks in the park with the dog, a trip to the seaside where I don’t feel like the wind is going to blow us away and feeling the sun on my skin. If these things make you feel better too then don’t be afraid to look forward to them. However, on a serious note if you are struggling with winter or indeed anything else in your life and you don’t feel as good as you should, don’t be afraid to reach out and get a little help – there is no shame in seeking professional advice if you need it – in fact, you deserve to feel good so do it as soon as you feel able.
If you have anything you’re looking forward to now summer is on the way I’d love you to share it below.
