When I turned 7 I fell over at school and subsequently found out that I was allergic to plasters; I hadn’t been until then or it certainly hadn’t been recognised as an allergy until this point. Ever since I haven’t been able to wear plasters, even the non-allergenic ones leave with me an itchy rash, but of a nightmare, if you ask me. However, as far as I am aware that’s the only thing I am allergic to! That said, I haven’t ever really looked into it.
When I think about it, I am actually a hayfever sufferer which I guess counts as an allergy. I think feeling that way in the Spring/Summer is something that many of us just simply put up with feeling as though it is normal to feel like we want to sneeze all the time once the nicer weather starts to come our way. However, that isn’t the case at all! In fact, more of us should probably do an allergy test at home to work out what we are allergic to and what we can to do make the suffering a little easier.
Doing An Allergy Test at Home
The truth is that doing an allergy test at home is probably easier and more accessible than you realise – and when you consider that 1 in 4 adults have an allergy, it would make sense that we do more to try and find out what is wrong and how we can ensure that allergies have less of an effect on how we are feeling. The allergy test at home involves you carrying out a skin prick test to see if you have any Immunoglobulin E (IgE) in your body – this is the antibody your body produces when it feels like it is under threat, which is what happens when your body reacts to something that you are allergic to. I recently discovered that Klarify Me offers a range of home tests for allergies and have a tonne of information on their website for you to read up on these tests and what they can help you discover about your body.

Do I Need To Do An Allergy Test?
If you already know something you are allergic to or feel as though you aren’t really allergic to anything then it can be tempting to assume that an allergy test is not necessary – however, in my eyes getting to know your body better can only be a good thing. After all, once you know that you’re allergic to something you can work around alternatives and how to avoid this; not so easy when you’re not aware that you are allergic to something! A home allergy test also gives you something solid that you can take to a doctor if you have any concerns – we all know that GPs are feeling the strain lately and that getting routine appointments isn’t always the easiest process, so if you are worried about an allergy then this can help to speed up the process as you’ll have evidence to show them regarding any allergies you may have developed.
