I’ve discovered a new hobby and it’s awesome. Expensive, but awesome! A couple of months ago I discovered an international snack swap group on Facebook. The idea is that you team up with someone else in a different country, agree on a budget and timescale and then swap snacks... I mean, what’s not to love? I’ve had grape jelly (jam), Paprika Lays (walkers crisps), Tim Tams and the infamous Everything But The Bagel Seasoning, which is nothing short of incredible!
I have things like dutch mayonnaise, spray cheese and black wild rice to try. The range of stuff I have had is incredible, as well as snacks we swap things like cooking seasonings and sauces and even drinks. It’s so much fun.

It can work out expensive as sending a box means you need to fill the box with goodies and then pay postage, which can be around ÂŁ30 depending on where you are sending it to. I know that means it isn’t something that is for everyone but I am loving it. I have one box from Canada on the way and a swap with Japan pending. Then having a break for a few weeks while me and the family work through some of the international snacks we’ve had so far!

Some of it works on trust and I have sent out one package and had nothing in return, but generally, it all works well. The group is well run and you can join a successful swappers group once you have your first completed swap, which gives you peace of mind that you are swapping with trusted people. The best advice I can give is to take a photo of the parcel all packed and labelled up before you post it and send the photo to your swap partner and then they do the same. Also, I always swap tracking/postage details as soon as I have them too!
