Tell a Friend They’re Fat? Tell A Friend They’re Fab? Why Not Both?

December 12, 2014 by Debz Louise 1 Comment

You might have seen in the papers or online over the last few days that Steve Miller (weight-loss ‘expert’) has declared the 7th January ‘Tell a Friend They’re Fat Day’. Because we all know that shaming someone about their body is the best way to get them to lose weight… #sigh.

Of course, I hate the idea of this day and feel like it is a complete waste of time. Not only does it help to ‘concrete’ the idea that another persons body is your business but it promotes the idea of bullying  – neither of which I agree with. In fact the idea is so ludicrous that even The Daily Telegraph are against it, which in itself says something.

In a valiant attempt to overcome this Slink Magazine have announced ‘Tell a Friend They’re Fab Day’ also taking place on the 7th January. The idea behind it being to turn the day into something positive, which is an amazing idea!

However, I was trying to find a way to blog and promote it in a way that I felt comfortable with. I don’t necessarily agree with the idea of rather than telling someone they are fat, you should tell someone they are fab. It sort of, in a round about way it promotes the idea that fat is bad because we’re denying talking about it. For me, telling me I am fat is as worthwhile as telling me I have brown hair & I’d love a campaign that promoted this idea for everyone. However, I love the idea of telling people they are brilliant and I had every intention of posting about it, as soon as I worked out exactly how I felt about it.

And then this happened. A fab post by The Arched Eyebrow which summed up how I felt about it. She has declared the day ‘Tell A Fat Friend They’re Fab Day’… Which I shall be doing! I shall also be telling my thin friends that they are fab & so are their bodies.

As Bethany points out, the whole idea behind Steves campaign is to make people shameful about their bodies, so pointing out that people have a fab personality isn’t the only way that we should be fighting this. Instead we should be giving people the power to say Yes, I am fat but I am bloody fabulous as well! I am sure we have all had the ‘Nooo you’re not fat, you’re fabulous‘ line given to us once or twice, but the truth is that I AM FAT (and fab!) and there is nothing wrong with that.

Anyway, there are links to all the campaigns in the post so have a read up and see how you feel about  them all! I’ll be getting involved in the #YouAreFab and the #TellAFatFriendTheyreFabDay because I think all of my friends are fabulous and I love an excuse to tell them so!

I’d love to know your views!

It’s A Tulle Order with H&M

December 5, 2014 by Debz Louise 2 Comments

My name is Debz and I have an obsession with online window shopping…

As part of my obsession I tend to browse different websites and see what they have on offer. I have browsed the H&M website a good few times, but never found anything to buy. I have to say that I H&M do have a good few plus size items and are perhaps over looked a little. I have heard that their sizes can be hit and miss and delivery can take a while (this took 10 days) but they are still worth a browse…. If only more of their high street stores had their plus collection in!

A few weeks ago I was doing one of my regular window shops of H&M when I came across this amazing tulle skirt. To many people this probably doesn’t seem like much of a revolution, but this type of skirt in my size just doesn’t come about every single day!

I ordered the skirt and sat at home with fingers crossed that it fitted. When it finally arrived I was so relieved that it fits LIKE A DREAM! Often with skirts and dresses like this the layer underneath which is made from a silk like material and therefore has no stretch. I am pleased to say that this H&M tulle skirt comes with a jersey layer underneath which fits lovely.

It is sold out in the 3XL now (the size I am wearing) but I am sure a 2XL would have fit too. The stretch is really generous.

Also wearing an #Amaze top from Evans and a lovely floral blaze from New Look.

It’s once again taught me to try new things and that as a plus size woman, I do still have fashion options. I agree that sometimes items can be harder to find but if you keep your eyes open, and window shop online at every opportunity you will find whatever it is you are looking for!

Have you shopped at H&M? What were your experiences?

Christmas at Boohoo Giveaway

December 2, 2014 by Debz Louise 20 Comments

I have spoken before about my love of Boohoo and the items that they offer. I honestly  pray for the day when they extend their range up past a 24 – and I know so many people who feel the same!

You only have to look at their new arrivals page to see that they are offering some fantastic pieces. I love that they offer items that are different, on trend and at a price that is affordable. I’d love to be able to try out more pieces, so if they ever go past a size 24 you can guarantee more items to pop up on this page. That said their plus size collection runs from a size 16 to a size 24 so it isn’t all bad.

This week they contacted me to give one of you lucky people the chance to try an item from their collection. Simply enter the raffle copter give away below and the winner will get to pick an item to be sent to them.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

The competition will run until the 10th December. I will get in touch with the winner ASAP for their address details, item choice and what size they want. Boohoo will send the item direct to the winner. No alternatives etc etc.

Good luck!

Trying Something a Little Different From Lady V London

November 28, 2014 by Debz Louise 3 Comments

Lady V London – If you have read my blog before then you will know I am a massive fan of the Estella dress by Lady V London and Georgina from Fuller Figure Fuller Bust. I honestly feel that the Estella dress was something quite revolutionary – in that you just can’t find pretty, vintage style clothing in sizes 28+.

Floral For Winter: Scarlett & Jo

November 25, 2014 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

I have to be honest and say that I don’t pay much attention to the seasons when it comes to clothing. I am not a massive fan of big winter coats or layering. When it comes to clothing I love bright colours and patterns and I don’t see why winter should be any different.
