I have now visited Butlins Skegness as a plus-size person for 4 summers in a row and thought it was about time I put together a plus-size guide to Butlins Skegness. I have visited the holiday park at various sizes, from a size 32 to a size 24, and whilst everyone will have their own experiences, I wanted to share mine.
Plus-Size Guide to Butlins Skegness

Plus-Size Guide to Butlins Skegness -How Does it Feel To Be Plus Size at Butlins Skegness?
Firstly, I would say that you won’t feel out of place at Butlins Skegness as a plus-size person. In my experience, the patrons at the holiday park come in all shapes and sizes. If you feel like you’re going to stand out as a fat person at Skegness Butlins, I can assure you that you won’t.
Personally, I don’t use any mobility aids, but if you do use one, you’ll find that you don’t stand out there either. I saw a range of people navigating Butlins Skegness with various mobility aids. Lots of the indoor venues seem to be mobility scooter and wheelchair friendly (I say this as an able-bodied person, so please do your own research), and there is also parking for mobility scooters outside many of the venues.

Plus-Size Guide to Butlins Skegness – Getting Around Butlins Skegness
It is important to know that Butlins Skegness is MASSIVE. I was there Monday to Friday and did upwards of 12,000 steps a day. The number of steps you do will of course vary depending on where your accommodation is located and what activities you want to take part in. However, you’ll often find your accomodation is 10 minutes walk from activities such as the fairground, so you’ll definitely want to make sure you wear comfortable shoes!

That said, no one is in a rush, and there are plenty of benches dotted around, so an opportunity for a sit down if you need it. Some of the chairs in the venues and coffee shops do have arms, so you’ll need to look out for chairs that you suit you – I haven’t found any chairs I couldn’t fit in, but everyone is shaped differently, and I have quite small hips, and I am mostly all tummy.

Plus-Size Guide to Butlins Skegness – What are the Rooms like at Butlins Skegness?
One of the great things about Butlins Skegness is that there are so many different rooms to choose from. Butlins is geared towards families, which means a choice of accommodation including multiple rooms and apartments. I go with my family, but stay separately, so I stay in a standard room. This is very much like a hotel room with an en-suite bathroom.
It has a kettle and a basic desk, a double bed and a nice shower, etc but if you are someone who is planning to spend a lot of time in your room, it might not be the ideal choice for you. That said, these are the rooms that are closest to lots of the entertainment and dining options, so are really good if you want to do less walking.
My family have stayed in two-bedroom apartments – so you get a living room with a sofa and a basic kitchen. These can be located a bit further away, but you get more space – be aware some are not ground floor and unless you specifically book a certain room when you book, you could be allocated one of the upstairs rooms.

Plus-Size Guide to Butlins Skegness – Things to Do at Butlins Skegness
One thing you won’t be short of at Butlins Skegness is things to do – and I imagine it is much the same on the Butlins Adult Weekenders too. I found that most of the venues and entertainment options seemed accommodating for those that needed specific seating or had access requirements.
However, I am aware that access requirements are a really personal thing so I can’t promise that they cover for everyone and all needs. Lots of Butlins is on ground level, and where entertainment isn’t (Reds), there is a lift.
Things to do in Butlins include: arcades, panto, arts and crafts sessions, soft play, a massive outdoor park, a gate to the beach (check opening times), various shows, a fairground and many more options, including sessions you need to pay extra to book – football, dancing, high ropes etc. In the summer there is usually a circus you can book tickets for too – and we all know I love a circus!
Eating at Butlins Skegness
When we visit Butlins Skegness, we opt for the dining plan. This allows you to have breakfast and dinner each day. It’s a self-serve dining hall, but we have plenty of options. As you can see from my plate of beige, there is something for everyone. Dinner-wise, most days have a roast dinner, a fish option, an international option (Curry, Indian, Chinese) and a kids’ option. There are plenty of desserts, a salad bar and a soup of the day. You can go up as many times as you like.
There are other dining options that allow you to eat at the on-site restaurants, or you can just use these as a pay-as-you-go option. Places to eat include a pizza restaurant, a pub, a fish and chip shop, a noodle bar and Burger King. Of course, depending on your accommodation, you can also opt to cook in your room.

Plus-Size Guide to Butlins Skegness – Would I Recommend Butlins Skegness for a Plus Size Person?
Butlins is super fun, and I have been for a few years now, so in many ways I would recommend it. You do need to be prepared for plenty of walking, so I would recommend shorts underneath dresses and comfortable shoes! When I visit in August, it is always very busy, so you’ll need to do some crowd navigating. However, booking activities on the app is easy, and you can use the app to navigate where you need to be, so you should avoid getting lost! I’m already booked to go again in 2027!
