If you’re anywhere near my age you’ll remember the days of old school sweets for a penny and being able to go to the shop with 50p and come out with a bundle of sweets in a white paper bag. Those days might be gone but that doesn’t mean that old school sweets should be forgotten forever. I’ve recently been re-introduced to the Swizzels Shop – and the number of old school sweets they offer is amazing.
Love Hearts
There was something delicious about Love Hearts wasn’t there? I have to be honest and say I enjoyed a packet of these the other day and thoroughly enjoyed being able to pass on a couple of the sweets with a cute message printed on to my boyfriend – romantic eh? I noticed on the Swizzels Shop that they even offer these as wedding favours, what a cute idea! You can get them printed with a range of personalised messages so suitable for all sorts of events and party bags.
Rainbow Drops
Bits of crisped up rice with some sort of delicious sugary coating – you can’t really go wrong can you? These tasted like deliciously flavoured air and were a firm favourite when my sister and brother and I went to the newsagent to spend our 50p! I was thrilled when I saw that Swizzels were still doing them and definitely intend to pick myself up a bag of them soon!
Parma Violets
I know that these bad boys are going to have mixed opinions, I know Parma Violets are considered a love/hate sweet – but I love them! My dad and I always used to go for these in those big tubs of mixed sweets you had a Christmas, they’re absolutely lovely! I know they have a strong flavour and that flavour isn’t for everyone, but honest I can’t get enough of them! Last summer I tried the Iceland Parma Violet ice lollies and have to admit, I’m a big fan of that too! I noticed you can buy the big rolls of sweets in bulk on the Swizzels website, so I might need to treat myself to some soon – 24 packs though, I might be forced to share!
