How To Get That Vintage Interior
If you’re into the stunning vintage, then there’s no reason this shouldn’t be accessible to everyone with all budgets. If you do decide to transform your home in the vintage style, then you’d assume it’ll be expensive. But before you splash out, have a look at some of these tips.
Classically, you’d associate a vintage interior with the highly desirable wood flooring. Especially, a beautiful parquet style with lots of knots and imperfections running throughout. Not only will
this perfectly go with the vintage look but is also bang on trend at the moment. Of course, this flooring is amazing, but at a high price!
One of the best things about real wood is that there’s so many options, all of which are at different prices. If you’re wanting to go to town, then a shabby chich whitewashed wood would look great and tends to be much more affordable than other wood flooring types.
With this being said, it’s worth looking at other alternatives that look almost identical to real wood and are a lot cheaper as well as being easier to maintain. Therefore, we’d recommend laminate or luxury vinyl tiles, both of which look strikingly similar to real wood.
Although real wood will add charm and richness to your space, it’s not always practical. It can scratch, stain and is no good when it comes into contact with too much water.
So, if you’re a big fan of vintage style flooring but just need something that’s not going to totally break the bank, don’t worry. You can almost certainly achieve the look you want with laminate and LVT, as well as loads of other benefits too!
Clever Storage Ideas for an Organised Wardrobe
A wardrobe that’s full-to-bursting makes choosing outfits time consuming and stressful. It’s way better when your wardrobe is a haven of inspiration and colour or style coordination. Home storage is definitely something important to consider if you’re looking to make the most of the space you have available.
Cut the Closet Chaos
The way you use the space plays a big part. You can, for instance, create a lot more hanging space if you install a second rail below the main rail. All you need is a length of metal tubing and a couple of end supports. You can even buy wardrobe rail kits online that come with everything you need, although it’s pretty easy to put one together yourself.
Extra rails work great if you have mostly separates, but what about when your clothes are longer, such as dresses or full length coats?
In this case, why not split your hanging items into categories, so all the longer items are to one side of the rail. You’ll have room for a plastic drawer tower or a shoe rack underneath shirts or skirts so you have extra space for jumpers, footwear, accessories or undies.
Moving the little things like socks and underwear into alternative storage in the wardrobe frees up dressing table or chest space for hairstyling and makeup.
A Wardrobe for all Seasons
You don’t have to keep every stitch of clothing at home all the time. One popular approach to clothes storage is to keep out of season items in self-storage. The idea is to rent a storage room large enough to act as a walk-in wardrobe. Install as many hanging rails, chests of drawers or shelves as you need, then use this as the place to keep out of season clothing pristine till you need it again. As long as the fixtures are all freestanding, you can have whatever you like.
There’s an added benefit too, on top of gaining all that extra space in the wardrobe at home. When you haven’t seen clothes for a few months, you tend to forget exactly what you’ve got. As the seasons’ turn, you’ll rediscover you own a treasure trove of garments that will all seem fresh again. And if you come across anything you definitely won’t wear this season, you can donate or sell
it knowing you won’t regret it.
And you can, of course, use your self-storage room for other household storage overflow as well as clothes.
- Squeeze Every Last Inch Out of the Wardrobe
- Back at home, you should now have a much more manageable wardrobe. But there are still one or two tricks for getting everything super organised:
- If you’ve got a top-shelf, use shelf dividers to help keep items stacked and folded as they should be.
- Use a hanging basket or tray under the shelf where you can pop gloves or hats, or any other small items that may not have their own home.
- Fit a narrow rail or a few hooks inside the wardrobe door. Great for hanging scarves, belts, beads, or ties.
- If you’ve got a bit of extra space at the bottom, use a tension rod (normally for light window dressings) to make a shoe rack. It’s easy to hook heels over to keep shoes corralled.
- You can use drink can ring pulls in place of hanger extenders. Just connect two hangers together to increase your hanging space.
- When you love clothes, you’re likely to have a decent-sized collection and a fair amount of money invested. Getting the wardrobe organised keeps expensive items in good condition longer, so you get even more pleasure out of them.

How To Keep Your House Tidy During Lockdown
There is no denying that 2020 has been a strange year, and now that we’re about to enter another 4-week lockdown period, it seems that this isn’t likely to change any time soon
Although lots of people have been shielding since March and, for most of us, activities have been reduced, the news of a 2nd restriction across England has been tough to take.
During the last lockdown, most of us benefited from good weather, not bad pay and, of course, the opportunity to bake banana bread! This time, we’ve got darker nights, rainy days and the worry of what Christmas will bring.
For me, rather than worrying about all of that, I wanted to use this time to get organised. I’m generally a messy person – I love organising events & making sure everything day to day is planned, but when it comes to household chores, those aren’t my favourite things at all. This means, my house has lots of clutter and lots of drawers filled with things that need sorting!
The best advice I can give you this lockdown period is just to look after yourself. Social media will be full of people baking, crafting, reading etc. and it can seem like there is a pressure to keep up – but there really shouldn’t be. We’re in unprecedented times and therefore, you just have to do what is best for you and the people in your household.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask For Help
I’m a big fan of work smart, don’t work hard. So if there is something that is going to make my life easier – I want it! Banking apps, emails on the go, getting my boyfriend to do the washing-up – all of it! I recently came across Laundryheap and let me tell you, if I still lived in Birmingham I would be taking advantage. As someone with far too many clothes, you wouldn’t believe that I often have times where I have nothing to wear! I am sure many of you can sympathise. Then you have that one outfit that you live in, you’re reliable outfit – and it’s dirty! Well, as Laundryheap do a 24-hour turnaround service, you can get away with sending it to them on Friday and still wearing it out on Saturday night, what a good idea. but if they ever extend to Hampshire I’m pretty sure I’ll be trying them out!
How To Keep Your House Tidy During Lockdown
The truth is, that you really don’t have to if you don’t want to. Just do whatever it is that makes you happy and feel safe. I would say that if you’re able to keep on top of basic chores then this generally helps your mind to feel better anyway. That and your wardrobe of freshly cleaned and ironed clothes will hopefully help you feel okay during lockdown – and then we can all get on with hoping 2021 will be better. Getting storage for the things you own is a good idea too – for example if you’re a keen reader then make sure you invest in some decent book shelves to keep your growing book collection tidy.
