Are you going trick or treating tonight? Have the best time if you are! However, as a grownup I wanted to share with you some ideas for taking a sensible approach to trick or treating, to make sure everyone is happy & safe.
Knocking on Doors
Of course trick or treat is all about visiting other people’s houses and seeing what goodies they have for your group. It is important to be respectful and understand that not everyone wants to join in this tradition or feels safe to do so – for example, if a house seems to have all of its lights off then they are probably looking to avoid visitors so it would be best to skip this house and move on. Look on local Facebook groups as you’ll often see streets sharing the details of what they’re doing to celebrate and many have Halloween walks and displays that you can visit knowing that everyone will be happy to join in.

Sticking Together
If you are going trick or treating then having a plan of where you are going before you set off is a good idea. Make sure that you all stick together and visit as a group; even if you have an adult with you. It’s important that no one wanders off & that you make sure everyone is safe as you navigate your way through your trick-or-treat-filled evening.
Eating Your Goods
If you’re lucky you’ll make your way home with a bag full of Halloween treats to enjoy – delicious! However, as much as these treats are tasty you do need to watch what you are eating and take a sensible approach to what you enjoy. After all, if you head home and start to munch it all at once you’ll soon start feeling sick. Of course, when you eat lots of sweets you do need to watch your teeth too; so giving them an extra good brush before you go to bed is recommended. The Oral Health Foundation have recently written some tips for how to keep your teeth healthy this Halloween; which you can read about here. One thing the Oral Health Foundation have written lots about is the benefits of sugar-free gum & how this can help to prevent plaque if you chew after eating; so that’s something to consider when you have eaten some of your Halloween goodies.

If you have any ideas for taking a sensible approach to trick or treating we’d love to hear them
