Ways To Pass The Time in Lock-down: Dating Edition

May 14, 2020 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

I have been in a fully-functioning, grownup relationship for 20 months now – I know, I can’t believe it either! That is a fact that has definitely made lockdown life a little easier for me, so I can understand if this time has led to you considering getting a new partner.

You might think that being on lockdown and most social places being closed will make dating impossible, but there are definitely some alternative ways you can look for a new mate.
Online Dating
As someone who has done online dating, and found a partner that way it is something I would recommend. Online dating during this time certainly means the pressure is off because you couldn’t meet up even if you wanted to. This allows you to make the most of this time and really get to know someone before you take the plunge to meet.

Speed Dating
Websites like DateinaDash are a really fun way to meet someone too! Think speed dating, but from the comfort of your own home. If you have a look at the website you’ll see lots of different events taking place, so there should be something to suit you!
Pub Quizzes & Online Socialising
Local pubs are getting more adventurous and many have set up online quiz events. Why not join in with one and see how you get on? Not only will you have fun and pass the time answering questions, but you may find that someone you chat to on the quiz you spark with and you could start to get to know them better! You could even have a go at arranging your own and ask your friends to invite their friends, they could play matchmaker without even knowing!
What tips do you have for passing the time during lock-down?

A Bit More About Vaping

May 5, 2020 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

I wrote a post the other day about vaping and it had quite a response, so when I was invited to share some more facts with you I jumped at the chance. As most of you will know I am not a smoker, but I do know lots of people who have benefited from vaping when it comes to giving up the habit.

April 21, 2020 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

Booking Dinner For Plus Size People – I am quite a sociable person and love getting together with friends and family for dinner and drinks. In the past I have been involved in arranging groups of plus size people to get together and enjoy some social time. It seems like a really easy thing to do, but actually there are some things to take into consideration to ensure as many people are comfortable as possible.

Moving House – How To Be Organised

April 16, 2020 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

Firstly, I hope you’re all doing well. I know the world is a little different currently and it is taking some getting used to. Be sure that whatever you’re doing to cope, as long as it isn’t picnicking in the park with 20 of your closest friends you’re doing okay!

I’ve certainly fallen into the trap of feeling like I’m not doing enough during this time & that is no good for anyone. It’s just fine if you’re doing nothing and it’s just fine if you’re doing lots, just don’t compare yourself to others and think whatever you’re doing to cope is wrong – it isn’t.

Moving House

If you’re planning to move house in the future, now is the ideal time to get organised if you have the mental capacity and time to do so. Personally, I love writing lists and getting myself organised that way, so that could be a good way to get started.

Why not write a list of the things you’ll need to organised before you start. Think about what you want to achieve – packing, moving the stuff, utilities and doing everything cost-effectively. You’ll then have a good starting point to get going with – and you’ll probably feel better for getting started, one less thing to worry about! Do you need a man and a van? You could spend this time researching the best companies to use and getting some quotes. It’s a good idea to know what to expect & how much it will cost so you can start to budget ready for when you do want to move house.

Get Rid of What You Don’t Need
If you are someone that has some unexpected spare time on their hands, could you use this time to declutter? I know I have gotten rid of a few black bags worth of old clothes and clutter from my house over the past few weeks and it feels really good. Now might not be the ideal time to sell things on Facebook or eBay, but there’s no harm in keeping them to one side until you’re ready to sell them. You might even raise enough money to pay towards your man and van moving costs, which can only be a good thing!
Have A Sort Out
Even if you don’t have lots that you want to throw away, there’s no harm in having a bit of a sort out ready to move house. For example, if you’re planning to move this summer why not pack a few boxes of your winter clothes up? Stack these somewhere out of the way and you’ll also free up some room in your house, handy for when moving starts! I bet if you look around your house there are things that you can pack away now that you’re not likely to need before you move house so why not start there?
A lot of hints depend on when you’re planning to move & how soon that is. That said if you are planning a move when life returns a bit more to normal there is no harm in doing what you can now to get things organised. It is a good way to keep busy if you’re stuck at home currently and you’re making life easier for future you, which is something that can only be a bonus!
What hints and tips would you share with others for moving house?

Accessorising to Upgrade Your Look

April 1, 2020 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

Nowadays, so many of us are wearing the same outfits as countless other people. This isn’t even necessarily due to actively following trends. We’re living in an age where fashion companies are focussing on fast fashion – lower quality products at a low price that are designed to be worn once for your Instagram photos and then disposed of, resold or simply not looked at again.
They’ll churn out thousands of copies of the same item and ship them out to people around the country, meaning that no matter where you go, chances are that there’s going to be someone else wearing the exact same outfit as you.
Now, you don’t necessarily have to completely step away from cheap and affordable options that are associated with fast fashion (though you may want to consider at least rewearing the items that you do buy for the sake of sustainability and the environment).
Instead, you can pair whatever items of clothing you’re interested in with accessories. Accessories are simple additions to any outfit that can help you to stand out from the crowd. They allow you to put your own individual stamp on whatever outfit you decide to go for – sprucing up your look and helping you to curate your own unique look.
Here are just a few different things you can do to get started with this!
Jewellery
One of the simplest ways to accessorise is with jewellery. Pieces of jewellery can be incorporated into multiple looks, meaning you can get a whole lot of wear out of one piece of jewellery – especially if the piece is relatively subtle and can be matched into multiple looks. Start building up a collection of simple and multifaceted pieces that will work well no matter what you’re wearing.
There are so many options out there. Plain gold, silver, platinum, rose gold…
Generally speaking, it’s best to invest in precious metals where possible, as these will be good quality, will stand the test of time, and won’t react with any skin that they come into contact with, leaving green marks or irritation. You could also start working in stones, ranging from artificial to semi-precious or even precious. If you feel like brightening things up a little and being bold, there are also really stand out, statement pieces.
Bright colours, bold prints… there’s bound to be something that ticks all of your boxes.
So, start browsing all sorts of jewellery. Bracelets, bangles, necklaces, earrings, rings.
Your collection can slowly grow!
Glasses
Glasses aren’t always a mere accessory. Many of us need glasses to correct our vision and allow us to see clearly. Of course, you can get glasses with plain glass if you simply want some to accessorise. But if you need to wear glasses, why not find a pair that you absolutely adore to transform them into more than just a tool – they can become an accessory too!
Sure, contact lenses could be a convenient alternative. But glasses can really make a statement!  There are so many different frames out there that it’s a good idea to browse your options and try on different styles to see what suits your face shape and personality.  Whether that’s cat eye glasses, large and round frames, wire-framed glasses, thick and square glasses, or anything else!
Piercings
Piercings used to have somewhat of a taboo surrounding them. Sure, there are common  piercings, such as simple earlobe piercings (and these can be decorated beautifully with a wide variety of earrings), but there are also alternative piercings too. These are becoming increasingly accepted as they’re becoming increasingly popular.  They can have different colours, metals and shapes of jewellery.  So, browse your options and see what could suit you! If you do decide to go ahead and get a piercing, make sure to use a reputable piercing artist. They should have a clean studio and
all of the correct training. They should also guide you through aftercare to ensure that you look after your new piercing well and allow it to heal properly. Whether you go for nose piercings,
lip piercings, or more obscure areas, this is a change that could really change up your look!
These are just a few different types of accessories that you might want to try out in order to switch up or spruce up your overall look! They’ll help you to stand out from the crowd!

Spring Bargains – How To Shop Savvy

February 20, 2020 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

How To Shop Savvy – I bet I am not alone in loving to online shop. I am sure many people love to highstreet shop too but the lack of plus-size options in the real world plus the chance of it being cold & wet means I am far more likely to shop online from the comfort of my own home! [Read more…]
