Come With Me To Visit the Rural Life Living Museum in Farnham

October 5, 2024 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

Come With Me To Visit the Rural Life Living Museum in Farnham – Last week while looking for something to do, I stumbled across a post on Facebook by the Rural Life Living Museum. They were advertising an event the next day to celebrate the anniversary of their opening – which meant that adults could attend for just 20p each. So, of course, we went along to check it out.

Come With Me To Visit the Rural Life Living Museum

I hadn’t been to, or seen much about the museum before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. When we got there we saw that it was all designed to be open-air and take advantage of the outdoor space – which meant that even though the event was understandably busy, it didn’t feel overcrowded. The idea behind the museum is to give a snapshot into what rural life would have been like in the past – and there is most definitely plenty to see.

I’m a fan of set-ups where you can see what houses looked like in the past, I find it fascinating to see how old living rooms would have been designed and what bedroom styling would have looked like, and when it comes to set-ups like this the Rural Life Living Museum didn’t disappoint.

One thing I really liked was the set-up of old caravans and holiday chalets – I feel some of them would be popular now with people looking to experience a ‘retro’ holiday, and could probably be tempted myself!

As there was plenty of outdoor space, the whole thing was dog-friendly which meant we could bring Derek with – which if I’m honest, is always a bonus for us!

Alongside all of that, they had displays set out like old shops – butchers, pharmacy, a cobbler and more – all really interesting to see. It was easy to see that plenty of time and effort had been put into making the displays and ensuring that they were packed full of things to see.

An old school room, a chapel and even a room full of old buses and cars – there was so much to see here that it is hard to fit it all in a blog post – but it’s safe to say that even at full price this is a day out that is packed full of value; we had a great time and are already looking forward to coming back!

What I Wore To Visit the Rural Life Living Museum

As I knew we were heading out for a day that would involve plenty of walking around, I wanted to make sure I was comfortable. However, as it was the first sunny day in what feels like 5 years, I also wanted to celebrate my favourite season finally being in site. I opted for this dress from Shein Curve, which was perfect. It’s a soft material without any stretch but the shired back meant that it was super comfortable to wear all day. Of course, it goes without saying that I adore the bright colours and it felt like a nod towards the better days on their way – I personally, can’t wait!

I love the length of this, which is surprising for me because it’s not a length I usually go for – but it felt fine to wear without leggings; which is always a good sign for me. We all know by now that I am a fan of Shein, and the fact that this bright bold dress goes up to a size 24 is great – they also do their Shein Fit Plus range which goes up to a UK Size 38; so there is something for pretty much everyone!

How was your weekend?

*Collaborative post – gifted dress.
