Lady Voluptuous: Maria – You Gotta See Her

May 30, 2016 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

If you’re a reader of my blog then you’ll know that I am a big fan of Lady V London and their plus size range Lady Voluptuous. This weekend I attended a wedding in Chester and so of course for a few weeks before I saw searching the internet for something appropriate to wear.

Plus size wedding guest outfits aren’t always easy to come by and I knew I wanted something beautiful and unusual, so I knew I had my work cut out for me. Then Lady Voluptuous announced their Spring/Summer release of dresses and I knew I’d be able to find something.

In case you don’t know the Lady Voluptuous range of dresses are all vintage dresses designed by Georgina from Fuller Figure Fuller Bust – all go up to a size 32.

So far from the Lady Voluptuous range I have the Estella, Ursula, Marilyn, Medusa, Bellatrix, Phoebe (in two prints) and now the Maria – I love them all for different reasons.

I chose the Maria because of the unusual pattern. I loved the idea of owning a mustard dress (I think she is my first) and the purple roses finished it off perfectly. I really like the neckline and the length of the dress too.  She comes complete with a belt that ties around the back to pull in the dress around the middle, which is a shape I really like.

There are still a couple of Lady Voluptuous dresses that I’d like to get but I have yet to decide what my next purchase will be!

One thing I wanted to touch upon is the fact that when you buy a dress, you’ll probably never look like the model on the website. There are lots of people who worry about this and I wanted to tell you to STOP! It’s OK not to look like the girl the website, because you look perfectly exactly as you are!

Which Lady Voluptuous dress is your favourite?

The Ultimate Lazy Bank Holiday

May 29, 2016 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

If you saw any of my social media yesterday you’ll see that I attended a wedding yesterday. The whole day was amazing – the wedding was beautiful and seeing so many old faces was great! Thursday and Friday I spent in London as well, so it’s fair to see I am pretty tired! Thankfully I am off work until Tuesday so I have plenty of time to recover.

Keep Your Curves and Stay Fit Without Stepping Foot Inside a Gym

May 29, 2016 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

Keep Your Curves and Stay Fit Without Stepping Foot Inside a
Gym
I am sure by now you guys know that I am a fatty who is more
than comfortable with how she looks. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t
like to try and be active. I tried the gym once and realised quickly that it
wasn’t for me – however if you like to go to the gym that’s OK too! I prefer to
stay active in otherways – once that are less costly for a start!
Walking
Do you know what people do when they go to the gym and step
on a treadmill? Walk. The idea bemuses me. Why you would go to an indoor place
to walk. None the less, people do it in droves. Me, however, I prefer to walk
outdoors. And outdoor walking has made such an improvement to my life that I
can’t praise it enough. Whether I am walking around the block or talking a walk down the prom, the fresh air and cardio activity have a great
impact on my physical and mental health.
Yoga
If you think that a plus sized girl can’t do yoga, I am here
to tell you otherwise.  I know lots of friends that take part in plus size yog and really, really enjoy it. I thought I would see what was available in plus sizes and I was surprised at the selection available! I headed to
the Groupon page for JD Sports and could see lots that would suit many of you! I can imagine a yoga class being as fun and friendly as the plus size dance class of Ashleighs that I attended a few months back, so I really need to try one!
Incidental Exercise
This is a trick that I actually picked up from one of my
yoga friends – incidental exercise. She was telling me that the time I climbed
the stairs at home or walked to the printer at work all counted as small forms
of exercise. The trick, she taught me, was to make the most of them. Now, when
I walk up the stairs to go to bed, I take two steps up, one down, then three
steps up. A small increase in the amount of steps I walk makes a difference.
When I need something from the printer at work, I choose to go the long way and
add a few extra steps to the count. I quickly learned that small instances like
this all added up!

If you like to stay active but can’t stand the gym, these
are great ways for you to keep your body and mind active without the need for a
gym membership!

Exciting New Discoveries Online

May 18, 2016 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

New Discoveries  – Today is my day off work – YAY!  I love mid-week days off but because most of my friends are at work I generally have no one to hang out with – boooo! That means the day because one of those catch up days, where you do all of the boring stuff you’ve been meaning to do around the house but never get around to.

Using The Internet To Bag a Bargain

May 13, 2016 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

I’m not going to lie, I love a bargain. I really love knowing that I have got something for a cut price or that I have managed to save some money somewhere. In fact when it comes to saving money I constantly use the internet to my advantage – looking for everything from cheap TV and internet packages to how to save money on a night out. I often share money saving tips, use voucher codes and buy from cut-price websites – purely so I can save myself a bit more cash, which of course I use to fill my already ample wardrobe. Your Fat Body & You. You Are Allowed To Exist

April 17, 2016 by Debz Louise Leave a Comment

Hiiii

I realise that it has been a while since I posted anything “real” and I apologise. Do I need to apologise? Probably not! I actually apologise to myself the most – blogging is something that I really enjoy and I can’t believe I let it slip. Today I had a reminder that it’s nearly a year since WE trended on Twitter and hit loads of national press with #WeAreTheThey. It made me realise how much I loved all of this – it relit my fire I guess!

Anyway, I wanted to write about fat bodies and how we should demand more for them. I know that coming to grips with the word fat was very easy for me. I sort of always knew that it was just a word and therefore nothing to worry about. I know that there are lots of you that feel the same. However knowing that the word can’t hurt you but actually navigating the world in a fat body can be two very different things. So, I wanted to put together a few words about demanding more for you and your body.

You Will Take Up Space

It is fact that as a larger person you will take up more space than someone smaller – just as taller people do over shorter people. It can be a really bad habit to get into when you start apologising for this, but it is also so easy to do. When you sit down & take up more space than someone else, you automatically want to apologise for it. When someone has to move out of the way you want to say sorry for the inconvenience. Yes, manners are important and you should thank someone for moving so you can pass/sit but you ARE ALLOWED to take up space, so don’t apologise for it.

Sometimes You Just Won’t Fit

Depending on you size, you might enter places when you just don’t fit in. Booths in restaurants for example. In circumstances like this it is easy to apologise for your body or simply sit quietly uncomfortable and just make do. The truth is that you ARE ALLOWED to sit comfortably while you eat. Simply tell the people you are with that you would prefer a table and get people to move. It can be scary at first, but once you have done it and realise that people will move without even batting an eyelid, it does get easier.

You Can Look Good

Gone are the days of fat bodies just having to make do. If there is a store that refuse to stock your size simply move on to another. Yes, I know when it comes to plus size fashion it isn’t always that easy but there are more options being introduced all the time. You ARE ALLOWED to look good.

You’re Entitled To Healthcare

One of the things I read about most on plus size Facebook groups is the reluctance to seek medical advice because they feel the issue will just be blamed on their weight. Whilst I think we should recognise that sometimes weight can cause problems, not everything is affected. Don’t be afraid to say to your doctor “Yes, I know I am overweight but I’d really like to concentrate on XXX today”. You ARE ALLOWED to look after your health.

Lastly – Love Your Body

I can not stress this enough – Your body is worthy of love – both yours and someone elses. You ARE ALLOWED to love your body, in fact I recommend it!

I am sure there are lots more and I will probably revisit the topic again, but just know
you are allowed to exist and you are allowed to be happy!

Debz xx
