Admittedly it has been a while since I did online dating – but seeing as I have been with my boyfriend now for over 2 years and we met on Plenty of Fish, you could say I’m a fan! I know that there are lots of horror stories around meeting a new partner online, but actually, it can be a really good experience too. I guess a bit like online reviews, we tend to write about the bad stuff & not shout about the good stuff. Actually, I think online dating is great and especially in the current climate can be a really good way to meet new people.
Finding The Right Site To Join
There are lots of different dating sites out there & many of them cater to different needs. For example, if you’re gay you may want to join a website that is tailored towards gay people. Same as I used to use lots of plus size dating app – however I did meet my partner via POF so I guess anything goes! There are also websites geared more towards causal hookups, which if that is what you’re looking for are perfect to join. You may also want to look up more local site like Lancashire singles and work towards finding a new partner that lives nearby. Looking to date in Lancashire or want someone interested in model aeroplanes? You’ll be able to find someone easily via the tight type of website
Creating An Online Profile
Once you have taken the plunge and decided on a website to join, you’ll need to think about what to write in your profile. For me, it was really important to let people know I was(am) unapologetically fat and it was important that they accepted (liked) this.
I wrote about being plus size in my profile and also made sure I had plenty of full-length profile photos – actually I had a “Fat Bitch” t-shirt as my profile picture when my now boyfriend messaged me! You can talk about what you’re looking for and even what you’re not looking for, although I always tried to keep my profile positive.Taking
The Next Step
Now you’re onto messaging people and getting to know them. Don’t be afraid to message people first! With the way that things are, you may not be able to rush out and meet new people face to face, but once you feel comfortable you can swap contact details and video chat or speak on the phone. These are great ways to test whether you feel you click with someone or not – and of course, if you do you can work out a way to meet in real life – how exciting!
Setting Boundaries
Online dating can be daunting so don’t be afraid to set some boundaries. For example, I would never have gone to someone’s house or had them to my house for a first date. There’s nothing wrong if you do want to do this, ut it was something I wouldn’t willing to do and I always made that clear. I generally met in a public place (Wetherspoons was a good choice as I could get there early, find a table I liked and order a drink with the app – stress-free) and told someone where I was going. The main thing about online dating is that it is there to be enjoyed. The nights are drawing in, the weather is getting colder – so have some fun & get out there to meet new people online, you never know what it might lead to!
