With more people needing permanent work from home options, you may have seen them talking about garden rooms and how this has given them more room in their home. However, most of us already have a wooden structure in our garden that we can use for storage – so what makes a garden room more than just a garden shed?
Typically a garden shed is made of wood and is constructed simply to store garden tools or perhaps a small workshop. The design of them mean that they’re not really made to last a long time. They’re not typically built for comfort or luxury but simply a necessity for storing garden tools, furniture etc.
On the flip side of this, a garden room is designed to be warm and cosy – somewhere comfortable to be. They’re built to comply with building regulations, which means that they have met all of the rules the rooms in the rest of your home do. They are fully insulated and hooked up to electricity so are much more an extension of your home rather than just a construction put there for a practical reason.

Making Use of a Garden Room
One of the best things about garden rooms is that they can be designed to use for any purpose – of course, the same can be said for sheds but you probably don’t want to turn your existing shed into a home office? We generally picture sheds as a bit dark and dinghy and the home to a few spiders – whereas a garden room is just like a room in your house – it’s warm, it can be carpeted and can be used for any function you need!
Common uses for a garden room include a home gym, a space to work from home and even just an extra living space for people to relax and chill out in. Garden rooms can be designed and put together to your exact specifications and as they can last over 50 years, they’re a pretty worthwhile investment.
Investing in a Garden Room
If you speak to a company that designs and installs garden rooms then you’ll be able to discuss your needs and they can run through the options with you. However, mostly whatever you need from an extra room in your home can be taken care of with a garden room – in fact, it can exist alongside your garden shed so you don’t even need to choose between the two!
Have you got a garden room? I’d love to hear all about it!
