I had a picky tea last night – quiche, potatoes, salad, boiled eggs – you know, that summertime tea that only really works in the nice weather. To me, that signified that summer is well and truly on its way. I know that it’s colder today but I refuse to give up on the fact that we’re nearly in summer. It’s the end of April, nice weather has to be around the corner – doesn’t it? With the better weather on its way and lockdown restrictions continuing to be eased, I am sure many of you are looking at new things to try this summer – after all, last summer was a bit of a washout wasn’t it?
I thought I would explore the idea of outdoor hobbies, so that even if restrictions don’t get lifted as much as we would all like – you can still enjoy them. So here are 3 hobbies you could take up this summer.
Visit Stables, Go Horse Riding
Whether or not you want to go horse riding, helping out at your local stables can be great fun. I haven’t been to stables for years but looking at Valestables.com I can see they have come on leaps and bounds over recent years – it’s incredible some of the timber stables they offer. Horse riding isn’t for me but feeding horses carrots and helping out at the stables is something that I could get on board with. I would suggest you get in touch with your local stable if this is something that you’d like to do and see if they know of anyone that needs help. Posting on local community Facebook groups might help too!

Get To Know Your Wider Local Area
I know that I saw lots of my local area in lockdown last summer as it was one of the only places we were allowed to go. I am lucky because I live in some beautiful countryside so it wasn’t really a chore. However, I did discover so many places that I hadn’t come across before – all just a few minutes walk from my door! It has made me wonder what else I could be missing out on nearby. I’ve been paying attending on local Facebook groups to see where everyone talks about taking their dogs and what sights they have seen. Without a doubt, once the nicer weather is here to stay I’ll be putting on my comfy trainers and dragging my boyfriend along to some of these places to explore our local area as much as possible.
Something New
If you want to try something completely new then you could look at hobbies like fishing or archery. I know for many people something like this will be out of their comfort zone, but if 2020 taught us anything it is that life is too short to put things off. I used to go fishing with my family when I was younger and really loved it – it’s a nice day sat in the sunshine, take a picnic and some cold drinks and you’re all set. I haven’t tried anything as adventurous as archery but I imagine it’s fun too.
Of course, this summer is set to offer us all of the usual ways to spend our time – pub garden, cinema, seeing friends etc but if you are wanting to try something new in the great outdoors then I hope hobbies you could take up this summer help with a little inspiration. Otherwise, simply buy some hammocks and spend the weekend relaxing in the garden – the choice is yours!
If you have any ideas of your own for hobbies you could take up this summer, I’d love it if you shared them below.
